speaker install

I'm hoping for a better response by reposting this thread here...

I'm looking for first hand experience with speaker installation.

I have a couple of scenarios here from infinity ref replacements to front stage and sub only. choices are:

ref comp and 6x9 replacements
kappa comps and replacements + 55 or 80 x 4 alpine
dei studio or focal polykevlar comps + alpine amp + maybe ref 6x9s on hu power

and/or add an infinity basslink to any of the above

I'm talking about mounting depth for stock locations and anything clever you did to ace the install, esp with dei or focal comps or kappa 6x9s.

hey I would go for the focals.... you will love those speakers even if you have to fudge a little to make em fit. Also, please dont power focals with an alpine amp - I say soundstream, zapco, brax, even directed but not alpine. Whats your budget like?

I'm looking at 750-950 (online pricing) and doing the install myself, which is why I'm concerned with install depth. alpine's attractive because it has speaker level inputs for my hu and has rca out for a sub if I get one. basslink decision is on the basis of space only - I travel and need the trunk space for weekly trips to the airport.

seems everything high end requires more depth than I have in stock locations.

I had the DEI studios 6.5s installed in my ride. They are a good speaker to pick, because they are shallow. They sounded pretty good. Unfortunately I was clipping them, and I blew a midbass. If you like harsh sounding tweets go with the polykevs, if you like a little bright go with the studios, I wouldnt go with the other ones you have chosen though.

my 2.2 currently has 5.25 but I'm going with 6.5.

so you think I should go with infinity kappa or ref? I take it you weren't too pleased with dei. I'm kind of curious how much power were you running to blow the mid.

I'd have to go with low end focal to stay on budget, and I keep reading good things but haven't heard them. also read once that they're hard to fit in the door.

I looking for live clear tweeters, not harsh.

I would pick DEI over the infinitys anyday!! I liked them a lot, but I wanted to go with a little more high end. Look into a/d/s 246is, CDT speakers, and the DEIs. You will be happy with those.

I agree ... the CDT's are some of the best speakers I have ever heard and I would definetley suggest them to anyone considering something higher end!

Yup, I love my CDTs. Love em so much I bought the CL-6Xs that NOLA CLS had for sale. Putting those in the rear doors.

Have the MS-100 sub too. It sounds great.
