Speaker & Amp question

1. Am thinking of installing my Infinity Kappas in my CL-S 01. Will that make a distinct improvement over stock speakers??

2. Where exactly is the amp located? Am wondering whether I should replace it with a good 6 channel and add a sub to it.

3. I want to do all of the above but retain the stock head unit. Is that being really crazy. I just do not want to replace the whole system and am worried if I replace the HU, I may have trouble with the steering volume controls.

Any feedback will be welcome. Thanks.

1. most brand name after market speakers will be an improvement over the stock speakers. but if you replace the speakers, you might want to replace the bose amp as well.

2. bose stock amp is located behind the jack on the right side of th etrunk. you'll have to remove the plastic compartment that holds the jack....remove the trunk cover matting on the right side...the amp should be behind the pillar. go to silvernight's links...he has a detailed location of it.

3. a lot of members have retained the stock head unit....mainly because it's a 6 disc in dash changer...plus if you get an after market head unit, you'll have to have the brackets and face plates custom made cuz there's none for our cars.

i've changed the bose amp, replaced all the speakers and added a sub. system sounds great!!! will be adding an eq to the head unit this weekend. hope it sounds even better.

Thanks for the answers. Very helpful. With your amp, what amp did you get? Where did you install the amp?

If I get an amp, I want a 6 channel amp: either the Nakamichi or Phoenix Gold and will add a sub to it. There is not that much space in the trunk. If you have a pix of the amp installed, please post.

Thanks

i do not have a very expensive set up like other folks. i used an alpine amp...i think it was v307 or something like that. with the way i have mine set up right now, i still have the bose amp hooked up. what i did was to get the outputs of the bose amp to the speakers, connected line out converters to that than connected the LOC to the alpine amp. i get very minimal hissing when the volume is very low but not noticeable when playing music. with the way i have my set up now, i mounted the alpine amp rigth where the jack storage is so it is still close to the bose amp (since i'm still using the signal from the bose amp). i just screwed it on the plastic cover. the jack, i put with the spare. the sub mtx amp i put it on the left side...and just screwed it onto the plastic thing on the left side. i will attempt to completely bypass the bose amp this weekend by connecting an eq with a voltage increaser to the outputs of the headunit. according to someone on this forum, the outputs of the headunit are line level but voltage is very weak to give a good signal to an aftermarket amp. so hopefully, with this eq, i can boost the signal level and again, bypass the bose amp completely.

there are a lot of topics with regards to how to wire aftermarket amps, what speakers to use, what amps to use and different wiring schematics in this forum. if you have the time, look around and you'll get a ton of ideas that may help you.....or make you more confussed.

let me know if you need more info. a lot of other people here can help you out as well.

Dang. Your post is way beyond me to comprehend. I am not technically gifted.

I guess, the main question then is:

If I get a good 6 channel amp (Naks or Phoenix Gold), install my Infinity Kappa speakers and add a 12" sub in a box, will the system work with the OEM head unit.
