Sound System Redone and Now Completed
This is an update to my earlier post I did a few months back:
http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8294
Since then, I have relocated my MTX mono sub amp from the back seat location to a custom board setup in the trunk next to the Kenwood amp. Also, I have added two 1/2 farad capacitors to each 4 channel Kenwood amplifier and I relocated my 1 farad capacitor from the back seat. These capacitors can"t be seen because they have been installed behind the amp board that the Kenwoods sit on so as to make sure that as much wires are hidden as possible.
This is where I had the MTX amplifier mounted before(I didn't like the mess of wires poking through the fabric):
This is what it looks like now(the capacitors are hidden behind the Kenwood amp boards):

Pretty sweet setup. I'm wary of putting a sub in my car because I actually use the flip down seat feature in the TSX once in a while.
If I went with new front speakers & an amp for them, is there a way I can have an installer mount an amp next to the Navi DVD system? That area up there seems to be out of the way and unobtrusive.

I had the capcitors from my old car and I just wanted to reuse them. At the time I wasn't too sure of where to mount them until just recently. In theory, the capacitors are supposed to help improve the power required to an amplifier whenever a peak in music occurs. Rather than trying to get power all of the way from the battery (a long distance) during a musical peak, the capcitors help in that the amplifier can get power from a closer source during the musical peak. I haven't heard anything bad about them just that people are unsure if they help out or not....but from my experience, I am not taking them out

I think somebody already did that somewhere on this forum. Looked prettty sweet. You would have to do a search for it.

You could always mount the amp on the side of the trunk like I did. This way, if you ever needed the fold down seats, you could use them without worrying about damaging your amplifier from being mounted on the back of the fold down seats. You would just have to remove the subs first.

I've run caps in a few of my installs, but I never "added" them, so I don't have a before and after to share. but I never had any problems with them...

Not only do the caps act as an intermediate power source, but can also be used as a low pass filter when an audio signal is run through them. I think an inductor acts like a high pass filter but can't remember for sure

Actually, a series capacitor acts as a high-pass filter (filters bass). A series inductor acts as a low-pass filter (filters highs). (Assuming there are no other parts in the filter.)
The idea behind the stiffening caps is to "stiffen" the voltage during peak draws, for amps which do not have tightly-regulated power supplies. For amps with highly-regulated power supplies, caps do not help.
