Sound Quality Subwoofers

I have a quick question for those of you out there that love quick, tight bass that is very musical. I just bought the Zapco C2K-6.0X to run my subwoofers. I'm very interested in the Boston Pro Series 12's because my buddy had one 12 in his 318ti and it absolutly slammed and he pushed it with about 425 watts rms. I was just wandering if there were any comparable options out there.

The specs are rather impressive on this amplifier. 2 X 150 @ 4 Ohms stereo and >1000 damping factor. Bridged it is 1 X 600 @ 4 Ohms and 1 X 1325 @ 2 Ohms. It is an amazing sounding amplifier I am planning to run two 12's off of it. I just haven't decided which one yet.

Besides the Boston Accoustics Pro Series I would look at these:
JL Audio W4
Image Dynamics, I believe the sub is called ID4 or IDQ not really sure
Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2
IMO. JL is the best of the bunch, but that is what i have so im partial to those. The Bostons are very impressive so are the Image Dynamics. Rockford i just threw out there as an alternative. There is also MTX Thunder 8000 , im not a big fan, but again, options. Any sub you choose should have a dual vioce coil preferably 4 ohms per coil which would allow you to run a 4 ohm bridged load from your amp. I stay away from Kicker they are way too punchy for me. Just a few off the top of my head, hope this helps, good luck.

Hi,
I would not recommend the hx2 from RF. I had it in my camry and it bumped but aiight bump not like wow and not very clean. My friend had a 12w6 and I borrowed to compare. The jls sounded GOOD in my old ride. So I recommend the 12w6 or better yet w7. They have 13w7 and those BUMP like crazy. I would definite get the w7 if I have the money they cost a little more

I am planning on purchasing the Image Dynamics IDQ12. It is a SQ sub with some decent output. It only requires about .75-.9 cu.ft. for a sealed enclosure. I will build a fiberglass enclosure on the left side of the trunk where the little pocket is. I am buying mine for $140 from a local dealer. It should have no problems handling the power from your amp. I will be running about 500-600W to mine.

A better sub for SQL (SQ and SPL) would be the Image Dynamics IDMAX12. Most say it is one of the best on the market for great sound and impressive levels. I am not comparing this against the JL W7 as too many people have done that before me on other forums. My opinion on the W7 is that it is overpriced but to each his own.

Focal subs are supposed to have great SQ. Unfortunately, they are expensive as &#(*%.

Forgot to add that I used to have a Boston Acoustics Pro 10. I thought it was a very nice musical sub with solid output. However, I feel the Image Dynamics IDQ12 is slightly better in SQ and is less expensive to boot. Just my opinion though.

They're still in production...however they will be replaced by the w6v2's soon.

TLTiger:
I run 2 JL 12 w7's and they're beautiful SQ with serious bump...however they're expensive. But they're nowhere near comparable to that Boston. Comparable to those are JL 12w6's ( I recommend), Focals, ID, kove audio, Infinity (another personal recommendation)...

I agree with Austin on the Focals. The Utopia and polykevlar line sound quite good. If you are interested in pure sound quality and not much spl then try to hunt down some Velodyne car subs (DFsc series). IMO these are the best SQ woofers bar none. You can't really describe the sound, they must be experienced first hand.

Other subs to look at: A/D/S/ .2 series, Brax Helix subs, Phase Linear Aliante.

Since you have a ton of power I am guessing you are looking more for an "SQL" woofer. You could try a pair of the Crystal CMP 12's which are single 4 ohm each and wire them for a 2 ohm load,
A/D/S/ .2 series and the Focal Polykevlar series.

How much are you looking to spend? What is the rest of your system comprised of? The more info you give the easier it will be for us to help steer you towards subs that are best suited to your needs...

Don't forget to compliment your NICE subs with a good set of components. Nothing like nice subs with stock speakers.

It will make a world of a difference

We know how much power you have to give to a sub. Do you want SQ, SQL, or SPL? How much space do you have for a box? How much do you want to spend?

There are some great sub recommendations on this thread. However, some of them are more related to SQ than SQL or need larger boxes than others.

Wampum,

Don't forget to compliment your NICE subs with a good set of components.
I hope that goes without saying but it is always a nice reminder.

I would seriously consider the IDQ if you are on a budget. I currently own 2 a/d/s 312rs.2 subs. I love them. If I had to redo my system again, I would choose the IDMAX. You can't go wrong with that sub. What is your price budget?

Thank you all for the replies and I am still considering each one. I have just talked to a local Zapco dealer of mine and am going to get the matching C2K-4.0X to run all the speakers inside the car which are Boston Pro 6.5's in the front and 5.5's in the rear. I also got a great deal on a Sony CDX-C90 head unit so that it what I will be using there. When I was in talking to the Zapco dealer we also talked about the Zapco EQ30-SL (2) one for the left channel and one for the right channel, but this is getting expensive fast. I will say the only reason I am getting the Boston Pro's for inside the car is because I had warranty on old speakers that I blew and am trading up for these for no extra charge.
