I had 2 10" xplods in a sealed box and I didnt like them. They actually blew on me. Ive had several other subs that were much better.

a bandpass box is a type of box(usually bigger than a port or sealed box) usually has a piece of plexi glass in it or some sort of clear something so you can see into the box.

but on the deal with the Xplods I'm like everyone else I've heard they at the most average (that's giving it major props).
If you want a tough system and willing to shell out some paper go with Eclipse. they have awesome quality and sound sweet as HELL.

in terms of cars a Xplod would be like a Civic DX
and a JL w7 or Eclipse Ti would be like a CL-S.

save your lunch money then
Eclipse's won't run as much as JL's... you could probably bump that. Or if you want a higher-end average sub, infinity is pretty nice. They sound good, good qual. I would definately NOT recomend sony's amps. Sport a rockford or somethin.

as far as a Eclipse Ti won't hang with a JL W7 that's bull.
they are almost the same as far as performance.
they both hold 750 watts Max. they both are pretty high priced. and they're both dog gone good speakers.

now if you want a nice system save your nickles and dimes and like I said get the JL W7s or Eclipse Ti's
now for a price on a a set of JL W7s12 no box or amp your talking about 1000 bucks for a set.
and I just checked the price on the Eclipses DVC Ti 12's and they are the same.
now I don't know if your into the whole square sub but as far as bang for your buck I found a place that sells a square 12 inch solo baric L7 for 450 a set(no box or amp)
but it will hold 750 watts(like the Eclipse Ti's and JL W7s)(which is a lot of bang for the buck)

as far as Sony amps :thumbsdn:
I'd recommend Eclipse amp which a 550x2 amp(4 ohm) model number 34230 it will run you about 450. so you could go with a Eclipse amp and a set of Solo Barics with box for about 1000 bucks
Eclipse makes sweet amps

Sorry but the Eclipse Ti cant hang with the W7. I've heard both subs in cars and the W7 was better, especially in SQ.
