Some progress on the TL upgrade kit

Just a general update on the TL, since I've had a LOT of 2G inquires on an upgrade kit. We get a TL in next week for the experimental phase : )

1) Since there's no tweeter like there is on the CL, we will either need to use a separate tweeter and mount it somewhere or use some sort of co-axial arrangement. Since Scott says that some tweets CAN be flush-mounted in the mirror sail, we are examing the mirror sails to see about buying them and pre-installing the tweets (like the CL).

Are all the mirror sails black on the 2G TL?

2) Since the 2G TL uses deck power for the 4 door speakers and the Bose amp for the 1.8-ohm R deck sub (I checked it with my impedance meter), it shouldn't sound as good as the CL, but might sound as good as the TSX.

Unfortunately, my expectation on this kit is that we will be in trouble on the Bose sub amp, since putting a 4 ohm speaker on an amp designed to run a 2 ohm speaker will result in 50% power loss. We'll check, though. My prediction is that the kit will comprise mids and tweets running off of deck power and a small amp (200W bridged) on an 8" woofer. I have secured 3 different samples of 8" woofers, all shallow enough to fit and some with more travel than others.

If the kit DOES use that amp, and we went with F tweets pre-mounted in mirror sails, mids with rings included, and a mounting ring for the woofer and the amp with a basic wiring kit (no RCAs needed), and pictorial instructions, it would be around $600-625. (We would use a DLS amp with a variable subsonic high-pass filter to keep that infinite-baffle driver more controlled).

The DIY project would be a bit more complex, since you'd be running power wire for the amp. NOt the straight drop-in of the CL-S and TSX upgrades...

If the kit can be done acceptably using the Bose amp, I suspect the woofer will be a different one as well (but more efficient) and I would guess that we would be around $425-50.

So just wondering if this is of interest or if it's not that big a deal to y'all...

what about a 2 ohm sub? or a dual 4 ohm?

Haven't seen either in the low-profile form factor needed...
