Exclamation So can I keep the factory Head Unit ?

Ok im a little confused I want to keep my factory head unit and install the amp that I already have along with replacing the factory speakers and installing new subs. So what door speakers would you guys recommend ? Many local shops say I can't keep my factory head unit. Anybody here have done this on a new 2002 TL-S ? If so please help!

Not straight hm? Well I'll make sure not to bend down in a shower next to you . You can keep the factory HU and install an aftermarket amp and subs and new speakers. There are plenty of types that people will recommend...it all depends on price range and your personal preferences. I would try the search next time as a suggestion. I've explained how to do it plenty of times . As for speakers...my preferences are JL, Infinity, Focal, a/d/s, Image Dynamics...along that level. The local shops that say it can't be done obviously don't know anything, so I wouldn't go to them. You can actually do it yourself. In fact aznboyz2000 did it just recently. Here's a thread to reference...

That's assuming he doesn't want to run an amp to his new door speakers, which I read in (maybe incorrectly) that he did; in which case he'd have to tap the signal wires behind the HU. Not only that...but running a Line Out Converter is a lower quality way to do the install...if he's just going to power the subs, and let the stock HU power the aftermarket speakers, then he should tap the sub signals feeding into the stock sub amp, and the remote wire while he's back there.

If you aren't planning on it, I suggest you get an aftermarket amp to power the aftermarket speakers. The stock HU doesn't really put out a lot of power...only 12W per channel.

I'm about as far away from...

...knowing anything about this kind of stuff. Can someone provide me with a plain Jane english version of how I can improve quality while keeping the factory head unit?

I'm speaker shopping too and all I know is that I love Polk's. Hit me up with any ideas that you may have... and put it in non techy english please!

Birch -

For about a hundred bucks you can just change out the fronts with Polk DX6's (see "Speaker" thread). Lot's of bang per buck.

Anything more will no doubt improve sound but will be less bang per buck (IMHO). Try replacing the fronts first then decide if you want more.
