simple question

is it possible to hook up a home dvd player in your car with the use of a power inverter?

yeah, I was wondering also, but can home dvd players withstand the heat, the cold and the vibration.

Depends how well they are built Titand19.

Also, about running on an inverter, the unit must have a nice power supply. Most inverters output a modified sine wave. If the unit has a poor converter, it will only recieve about 80 volts - same as if you plug a normal mulit-meter into an inverter, it will read 30-40 volts less. If you hook up a true RMS meter to an inverter however, it will read the correct voltage.
