as a curiousity question, if you put in regular 2-way 6x9's in the rear, how would that sound? considering you are only getting lows right?

Actually, technically speaking, the filter is in the amp, not the HU. The HU sends full-range to the amp.

Many people have done it and said they got better sound. Bb will come along soon posting something about what he did.

You have a PM...

I did put 6x9 coaxials (Polk) in the rear and the bass was tighter. This was my first audio mod.

A couple of questions on this topic...
first: Has anyone replaced the rear 6x9's with 8" open airs?

second: what is the power rating for the stock TSX? I know we have 8 speakers, is it an 8 channel amp or what? Wattage?

I am going to go with 8" subs in the back dash...will look for a way to get them to fit without changin anything.

Let me know!

Ah, the rustic, mossy Kitsap Peninsula.

If you're considering doing that on the OEM amp, I'd say don't.

The OEM amp would have been rated by Alpine back in the day at 18W x 8. Now they would call it 40 x 8 - but only in a head unit.

Inside there are two head-unit amp IC's - each 4 channels.

Two are run two-channel with a mono lowpass signal for the 6x9s. Two go highpass to the R doors, two go highpass to the front doors, and two are parelleled off of the front doors, run thought two series capacitors, and go to the tweeters in the dash.

Thx! Well I bought a pair of 8"s just to see if it was possible to even mount them in the back dash. Well....it was possible to mount them from the bottom and get by all the steel bars and what not, but the 8 would be partially blocked by the back dash. So I returned the 8s and purchased a pair of JBL 2 way 6x9's. Obviously there aren't any highs comming from them (although the system could use it). But the bass is a little tighter adn can they can handle what the stock amp brings to them without popping (unlike the stockies). Will probably amp them soon.
