Replacing door speakers

Anyone consider pulling the grills out of the door panels?

I measured today, they appear to be about 6.5-7" in diameter.

do you think you could pull off the grills and then swap out the speakers without having to pull the whole door panel off?

seems like this would be a lot easier.

on another note:

so i think i am going to eventually add a sub. i think the stock 6x9s are great, but i'm spoiled with my 12" sub at home. the problem is i don't have the desire nor money to put some flashy install in. i also don't want to eat up my trunk space with a massive sub box.

i was thinking of buying an amplifed sub. they claim you can tap the signal off another speaker. the rear deck 6x9s are sitting right there. i realize the sound quality will be less, but it is a sub, so clarity is not as important.

anyone have any experience tapping the seaker level output to a sub?

The grills do not pull out...they are part of the door panel. You would have to CUT them out.

Sucks, I'd rather have a pull out, but them's the breaks.

I'd like to know about this as well. It's either that or running in a 2 channel amp and 2 8" subs mated to the existing 6x9 holes...assuming the passenger-side one can fit with the trunk torsion bars.

an 8 incher will fit with the 6x9 section that we have in teh rears. the torsion bars are not in the way. my friend just got some recently and i put them up to the 6x9 spot and they will fit with some custom installation. you could either mount it to the bottom of the deck or cut the 6x9 hole and drop it in.

Can you please give some details on this 8" installation? What type & were they free-air or boxed? Are they amped. I have 2 Polk MW8003 and am curious if these would work. Any comments or details appreciated.
