replacement front speakers. Wiring Question
Hi fellas,
This forum has really helped me dive into the world of DIY. I'm really grateful to all the members that contributed their projects and fixes.
I already did an Alpinte Type-S speaker upgrade on my TSX. However, with the help of a Mercman harness, I am now ready to change my front speakers and power it with an external amp.
My question is, where should I route the speaker wires for the front mids and tweets? With the Type-S speakers, I just connected them onto the stock speaker wires, so it was easy. With these new speakers, I'm going to use the new crossover with new speaker wires.
Has anybody replaced their front speakers and connect it to an external amp? How did you route your speaker wires in the dash and onto the doors?
Thanks!

For the tweeters, just fish the speaker wire from the hole on the dash (where the tweeter goes). Take off the bottom black panel (On top of your feet if you were sitting down). You'll be able to fish the speaker wire down into there - from there, you can route it down the door sill panels, to your trunk (or whereever you have your amps at, assuming in your trunk).
*I found it easiest to use left/right hand to fish it down while standing on the side of your car, looking down through your windshield, a flashlight with your respective other hand, and just fishing it through the cracks*
The front door speakers, I found it easiest to just tap into existing speaker wire -- it's far too complicated to route the wire through that grommet. It's doable, but probably unnecessary, and just not worth the elbow grease. Then just tap into it on either the otherside, by the kick panel, or by our stock amp, and route that speaker wire to your amp.
Hope this helps..

Thanks Wongtsx. That definitely opens up my options. I might still try to routhe the wire through the grommet, fearing that the stock speaker wires may be too thin for the new speakers.
Hmmm... where'd you put your crossover?

I apologize if this is hard to read--typing from blackberry, and can't exactly read what I wrote without lots of scrolling which I'm lazy to do .
I think you'll be fine with the stock wiring in the doors. I had 320w available to my fronts at one point and they were fine. The stock wiring in our doors I would guess to be 18ga. Our tweeter wiring is where it'll need work if you'll be running a high powered system. Those bad boys are probably 20-24ga... My front right tweeter got blown due to the stock wiring melting and being grounded out. Switched to 16ga and havnt had a problem since (bout 2yrs)
I mounted the crossovers on the hudden side of the black kick panel with one of those bendable straps - I think plumbers use them to strap pipes.
