Removing Stock Sub

I know some of you have done this. Do you think if you remove the stock sub that the hole it leaves would allow more bass into the cabin? Just a thought. Has anyone done A/B testing to see if it does?

Hey its me again, the first one to reply to your post. ok when I had my Infinity reference sub and my 2 alpine type S 10s it didnt sound good with the stock sub out. With my Mtx 8000, Alpine Type R and Solobaric. it sounds great and more bass comes into the cabin. Just try it out for your self. theres been positve and negitive results. Some people say it will sound like a messed up ported box, but i didnt think it did.

I have not even looked at it. Is it hard to get the sub out?

The hardest part of gettin the sub out was removing the cover. but other than that it was easy.

Pop the top part off, that is the cover that says bose. Then just wiggle around and pop out the second part, o first twist out the brake light fixures. Now theres 4 bolts holding in the bose woofer, unscrew and your done.

Wow, that's an interesting question I hadn't thought of.

I'm pretty much a sealed box kind of person. I expect more musicality than boom. Iron Maiden doesn't boom. Think of it as a box (subwoofer box) within a box (trunk). In my case it is a sealed box within a "sealed" trunk. Removing the woofer will make the trunk a seriously ported box.

If I ever get my HU in, I'll experiment with both options. It sounds like a very interesting topic.

That is exactly what I thought too Bozz. I am going to do some A/B testing of my own with my Kicker 10L7. I am going to point it right up at the hole and remove the sub and see what happens. I will let you know.
