Relays!??
ive been doin some searches on relays and stock amp remote wire not turning on the amps...(i currently bought a rockford power 500.2 amp)
still some things are not clear to me,
if i use a relay and wire the the power, the negative, the stock remote turn on, and wire to turn on the amp to the relay
then will the amp turn on automatically when the headunit is turned on... or will i need a switch to turn it on and off the amp???
and i read about if i use the relay the it may help to stop the lights dimming, could i get a quick xplantion on what thats all bout???
need help.....

yup you can use a relay.
the common type of relays have 5 terminals...
- 30, 87 and 87a make up one (well, two) circuits
- 85 and 86 is used to activate the relay, and switch between the two circuits
radio remore turn on wire connects to terminal 85
ground terminal 86
connect battery power to terminal 30
connect terminal 87 to amp's turn on port
terminal 87a is not used...so cover it up.
btw, you can switch the wires between terminals 85 and 86 as well as between terminals 30 and 87.

Try this link. Scroll down on right side for the relay section or anything else about basic car audio.

i just ran my wire into my fuse box and wrapped it around the radio fuse...when the radio turned on the amp kicked on too... make sure u wrap it around the right side of the fuse tho... and if ur lights dim like mine at high volumes... just get a CAP... like 100 and under...

I don't understand why you're doing all that. All you do is wire the supplied remote wire in to the head of the fuse for the stock radio...
"and if ur lights dim like mine at high volumes... just get a CAP... like 100 and under..."
I don't see what that comment has to do with anything at all But a cap doesn't necessarily solve that. Saying "if your lights dim at high volumes" may not mean that you need a cap...it could mean quite a few other things...I can think of 3 off the top of my head. Make sure you know what a cap does and what you need before you go buying a bandaid...

well mr. know-it-all, im going to hook up other things other than the amp to the relay
kamlung:thas what i did but i was lookin for another solution thanks though....
stanman/brewboy: thanks!

I didn't see you explain that in your post and you're welcome...

On a normal 30-amp automotive relay there are 4 terminals on the bottom. See StanMan's post above for the correct terminal numbers: Connect one to a wire from the battery, one connects to car's ACC wire, one goes to ground and the last one goes to your amp's turn on. Installed my relay under the center console (between the shifter and cupholder.
I made a burlwood switch panel (inside the cupholder doors) with 6 lighted switches that turn on my amps and neon lighting. I ran a 12 ga wire from my battery (same place my amps 4 ga power wire is coming from & I have a 100-amp circuit breaker at the battery) to the 30-amp automotive relay. I tapped into the ACC wire for the "cig lighter" behind the console. Use a switch if you like, or you can run a lead directly to one or two amps and they will come on when you turn the key to ACC (when your cig lighter/power adapter comes on). I used switches because I didn't want the amps on all the time. j83 - send me a PM if you have more ???
P.S. My switch panel also has its own 10-amp fuse.
Brewboy - I love that site!! Learned a lot and picked up some great tips there.

Although you didn't seem to grateful as it is...I'll tell you something else. You need to put a 200+ V diode inline with pin 85 because when the relay uncharges it will send voltage back through the circuit, and will fry whatever's connected to your remote wire...or you could snub me again and not listen and fry your electronics...
