OK, I'm not up-to-date with the lastest home electronics...

Is there such appliance that can record TV program to DVD/VCD disc so it can be played in DVD player ?
I mean as straightforward and reliable as the good-old VHS.

What I'm picturing is recording TV program (like American Idol, Family Guy...) and play it in car on Navi screen once I get my DVD-Navi thing setup done.

Get a home DVD recorder & you can record TV just like a VCR. If you get the RW dvd's, they will work just like VHS.
Most DVD recorders have coax antenna inputs.

 

A Portable video player might be better for you. Looking into the Archos AV420
