recomendation on a cap and power wire...
I just installed my system. I have a kenwood Kacx501f 4 channel amp (150x4) this is powering kenwood components 6.5(for now) in the fronts. 1 JL 10w7 w/ the 500/1 monoblock.
The kenwood has 4 20amp fuses, Im not exactly sure what the JL amp has. The system sounds really sweet Tonight i was a little bored at work so i connected the VAT machine to my battery. I turned the system all the way up and saw that im peaking at 96 AMPS. It ranges from 15-96 amps.
Um my questions are what gauge wire should i be running from the battery to the trunk?
What is the ouput of the alternator on the 03 TL-S?
I guess it would be wise to install a CAP.. my tail lights look like strobes.....
TIA

I always oversize the wire....in your case, 4 guage should suffice, but if I were to do that install, I'd probably run 0/1 guage for the hell of it. A capacitor won't really help your dimming lights as that's not what they are intended for. General rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts, but thats a load of crap too. I'd go with something like a 5 farad cap (alumapro makes a nice one if you are interested), and upgrade your battery....not a yellow top either, one of the new Scosche batteries which blows the yellow tops away. The only GOOD way to fight against dimming lights is alternator upgrade, or have your factory one wound. A capacitor is intended for deep bass drops, to hold a note out, not to clip at certain frequencies since the battery can't supply that amount of current fast enough to the amp.

BTW, Ron, what kind of caps would you recommend for my setup. 2 RF Power 1100A2's pushing about 1000 watts each running my W7's. I was thinking either getting the new RF 50 Farad Cap, Alumapro 15 Farad, or Stinger 5 Farad Super Capacitor. What do you think?
