RCE-216s crossovers
RCE-216s crossovers
I talked to eld about my crossover situation and how I want to use the stock amp to power the 216s tweeters and FDs. The thing is that I want to wire in the crossovers from MB Quartz. So the question I have is eld told me to use the door cables and run them to the crossover and from there run the doors and tweeters and to cap of the tweeter wires from the amp. Do you think I should get the highs from the door wires? I wasn't sure if the stock amp is crossing those over for just mids.
I am not too familiar with audio nor these crossovers but I am wondering if I could hook up the tweeter and door outputs from the stock amp into the crossover inputs since there is space for two inputs and from there run the tweeters and the doors?
Thanks guys for you help. Eld you help would be greatly appreciated also

Read your speaker manual (if you don't have it download it from mbquart.com).
If your xover supports "bi-wiring", then you can run seperate tweeter wires in and out, and seperate woofer wires in and out - BUT you MUST remove the jumpers that are mentioned in the instructions or you will short the amp! The xover, if bi-wire capable, is NOT bi-wire capable UNTIL those jumpers are removed.
What's that old saying? RTFM : ) (pointing out, of course, that I don't know unless I read it...: 0

The manual had nothing on the biamping but i did find this and does not say anything about jumper settings...what do you think?

Yeah, that manual DID suck ass. The drawings show the TW and WF IN screws... look through the plexi cover, are there jumpers on the board labeled "biamp" or "biwire"?
Edit: They would be near the screws on the PCB.

Eld, there are no jumpers inside the crossover but I believe there are removable clips that tie the termials together on the inputs

the positives have a clip that connects to both terminals and do the negatives. Not sure if this is something that you were looking for...let me know

Clips and jumpers are the same thing here... they bridge two pins, right? If they are connecting the + inputs together and the - inputs together, then that's what they are for. Take them out, and then you can run the tweeter wire and woofer wire into the xover.
Now, for whether or not that's a good idea... I've never seen any specific statement from anyone on whether the tweeter wire is connected to its own channels or not. I have no idea how much power comes out that amp wire, and what crossover is already in place, and what would happen when those xovers sum together in some way... and I'm not clear on why you aren't doing it the other way.

ok thanks...well i was looking at my options as not knowing if highs are sent to the doors or not. If they are then the crossover with just the door input will work fine...if not then i may have to biamp as it is necessary to get the highs.
thanks
thanks
