RCA Ground Loop Isolator

Which one should I get to rid of engine noise in an amp installation? What's your experience?

Is this any good? PAC SNI-1 Ground Loop Isolator, $19.99

I want to buy local, but stores don't seem to keep much a stock on these things.

I also found the Soundgate ISO2 online, $39.99; but stores don't have it.

Before you put a GLI make sure your ground has a clean connection. Sand the area where you grounded the wire to make sure you have metal to metal conection. No paint!

Also it will help if your ground wire is less than 18 inches.

I'll check into those. Thank you.

Slo007 if you still want to buy a GLI for your RCA connection you can buy this one from radio shack. It simple and cheap.

I moved the ground wire to the screw that holds the side of the rear left seat. Unfortunately, the odd noises continue. Really annoying! I don't know what it is as I have noises when the stereo is both ON and OFF, and they are different, too.

Coincidently, I have the exact same GLI for my MP3 player (and it does work very well). I'll try another one soon... (my mom's A6 died and she took my car).

What do you mean? Brand of the cable? I don't know. The stereo shop picked it (it's not printed anywhere). I might need better ones (i.e. shielded).

I tried the Radio Shack GLI this evening and had no success. Furthermore, I pulled the RCAs off the amplifier and the noises went away (speakers OFF), only the rear ON with OEM amp. It's definitely the new wiring (or the new amp).

I'll just wait until next week and have the store fix it. I paid too much ($120) for the install, for me to change the entire wiring after the fact. It's their problem! And if they can't fix it, I'll seek a partial refund at least.

yah... its prolly the LOC or the RCA cables. JL make some very well built stuff. get some LOC here as they are the best around http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm. also get some quality RCAs http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/STRZN2504

might want to look here also..cheaper stuff but also very good quality. http://www.knukonceptz.com/

my rule of thumb is spend 10% of total system purchase on cables.

Did they take the signal from the speakers in the trunk. If so they would need a high to low signal converter.

Here, I scaned the wiring code. Print them out and take them to your installer.

HU wiring 439kb...amp wiring 87kb

The amp already has a high speaker level input... but the shop didn't use it. Instead, they took the signal from the head unit, bypassed the OEM amp, put it into an RCA cable and plugged it to the RCA input of the amp. I'm assuming the output of the HU is low level...

Thanks. I actually had the second page you linked with me the first time I dropped the car off. I'll be taking it in again next week, hopefully on Monday.
