try using the remote wire for the stock deck. That way it will only get power when you turn your key to ACC. Thats what i'm running my amp off and it works great.

I would use it, but I don't want to open up my whole factory face up. I want to find something else which will do the job.

I'm confused, the cig lighter turns off with the car. My radar detector shuts off when I cut the car off. Also, what about the fuse for the armrest power port. Or, a windshield wiper fuse may work too.

I tapped into my cig lighter (behind heat seater switch assy) and it turns off with car. I don't recommend tapping into fuses.

There's a 3 inch connector from the back of the lighter to the back of the ashtray/heat seater assy, and it comes out without removing anything. You can take it out and solder a wire to it easily. (If you find that it really does have switched power).

If he connected the wire directly to the fuse it won't matter which side he connected it to. A fuse conducts electricity (so long as it's not blown!) So it will be either on or off no matter which side it is connected to, depending on whether or not there is power going to the fuse or not.

im pretty sure that u have to put it on the cold side of the fuse... if u connect it to the live side the fuse won't do anything for the wire u are tapping since it is just getting straight power... by having the wire after the fuse, the fuse can regulate it if it blows...

Yes, in terms of PROTECTION you are absolutely correct, if it's on the HOT side of the fuse, it will not receive the protection from the fuse, however it as long as the fuse is good, in terms of getting power, it will always be "hot" so it doesn't matter what side he is connected to for the purpose of making the thing power on.
