Quick speaker question, need help
I want to get more bass out of the Bose system but don't want to shell out the $600 bucks for the sub and amp. What shall I do??
Can I just get new speakers? If so what kind will do?
Thanks in advance.

Well seriously changing the speakers in your car is not going to be cheaper either. Quality components and a good pair of 6x9's will run you at least 5 or 6 bills. IMO the bose speakers are not that bad, just get an ok sub and amp set up and you are good to go.

You can get a MTX 8302 amp, and MTX T6104(10" sub) with a box for $360 @ luchioni@aol.com . Try him out. He's not far from you. Just off 10 and 405. Tell him AJ gave you his email. He has many options to chose from. Many alot cheaper than what I mentioned. This just happens to be what I consider the best deal for your application and future upgrades.

Check out the little Infinity 10" powered sub at crutchfield, I installed one of these for a customer the other day, i was very impressed, i put it in an expedition all the way in the back, and it was still very loud up front. They run $400, but its all one tiny package and its super simple to install.

Don't even think about "just replacing" BOSE speakers while keeping the factory BOSE power (joke) amp. The wimpy amp's speaker output impedances are rated at 2 ohms! That means that it's designed specifically for the low-fi BOSE components, not the typical 4 ohm impedance of the quality aftermarket upgrade speakers. If you keep the BOSE amp, keep the BOSE speakers.
If you want more bass, adding a quality powered sub makes sense, but be sure that you have a crossover that filters out those unwanted mid and high frequencies. Also, having just installed a JL Audio 10W6 in a custom box in my trunk, I learned that you really need to have SUFFICIENT power to get the "BASS" into the car. (Unless you keep the trunk pass-thru open and have your sub fire directly into the passenger cabin.)
Personally, I listen to music in my car, not the thumping of a "boom-box." It's been my experience that clean, non-boomy bass requires a decent power amp. I have a "modest" JL Audio monoblock 250/1, which works nicely.
IMO, it's a dumb idea to cheap out on the quality of your speakers when you're driving such a sweet car as ours.
