I want a TV in my dash. I only want to spend around 700-800. What do i need besides the screen, and the Dvd player? How do I do i get sound into my amps from the dvd player? Do i need le a special device for this. I'm clueless. Thanks.

Titland19 : lets start from the beginning.... you want a screen in your car, right? So, I got a couple questions for ya ....

1) Now, what do you want to be able to do with it? Navigation? DVD?

2) If you will only be using composite signals like a DVD player or a game system or a tv tuner you will only need a screen and a dvd player.

3) When you say that you want to only spend 700-800, are you reffering to the screen and the dvd player? How about installation? Will you be installing this yourself?

4) Are you looking for Dolby Digital or DTS decoding

and finally, to answer your question, most any DVD player meant for car use on the market right now will have RCA jacks to feed into your amps.

AdamR,

Why do you have two screens since you have the AVC-RGB1 mod? Do they serve different functions?

1) I only want to be able to play DVD's and/or possibly a Video game system.
3) I can install it myself.
4) What's the difference?

My amps have no more RCA jacks because the ones from the head unit are using them up. I'm still a bit confused. Can you help clarify more. Thanks.

do you have an after market headunit or are you still using the stock head unit.... if you are using the stock head unit you could use a fm modulator to get the sound to play thru the radio...if you are using an aftermarket headunit that has an auxilary in then you could use that.....

The difference between Dolby Digital and DTS is just the encoding format. Personally, I like Dolby Digital for movies that are very spacial and DTS for action movies with a bunch of gunfire. Now, both of these formats require a center speaker to REALLY experience them as most of the dialog is going to be centered through that speaker. So, from a Dolby Digital OR DTS encoded DVD, you are going to get 5.1 streams of audio - Front Left, Front Center, Front Right, Right Rear, Left Rear and Subwoofer which is only a .1 channel due to the fact it only contains the lowest frequencies.

If you can install this yourself, you are already ahead of the game as far as price and you can spend all of your money on better equipment rather than someone elses expertise. Furthermore, I salute you for doing it yourself - this seems to be a lost art in todays society.

Since you only want to be able to play DVDs and a game systesm (both being composite inputs) you are only going to need a screen and a DVD player.

Okay, with the imformation that you have passed on to me, I have a couple more questions for ya :

1) did you buy the stock navigation system with your car?

2) how big of a screen do you want?

3) where do you want to mount the screen?

4) would you like a DVD player or a DVD changer?

Ok, here it is...

Not quite a CL, but a distant cousin, and not quite 7 screens, but pretty functional, and it's got all I want...

Titand19,

How about this 7" motorized screen for $689:

http://www.five-stars.com/da7169.html

or this 6.4" motorized screen for $550:

http://www.five-stars.com/f6400smi.html

get this DVD player for $159 and install it under your seat:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1360125460

or this in-dash DVD player for $225:

http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=PLDVD99

and then get an RF modulator and hook it up to the audio out in the DVD player, and your set for about $700 - $800
