Question on upgrading Bose HU / adding amp+sub
New to the forum here.
I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I have a 97 CL 3.0 with the factory Bose HU, 6 speakers, and amp back by the jack in the trunk. Because the Bose HU will no longer play CD's and I want to be able to use my iPod without an FM adapter, I want to replace the Bose HU with a new unit, likely a Kenwood EZ500. I also would like to add a powered sub; either Infinity BassLink or, more likely, a Clarion SRV303 under the passenger seat.
My questions:
1) Is upgrading the HU straightforward? In other words, will I be able to install it with just a Crutchfield (or other) wiring harness without much trouble and still have the factory amp and speakers work as they do now? I don't want to get started and find out I'm in over my head.
2) What is the best way to add an amp/sub combo? Obviously if the factory HU is replaced, I'll just be able to use the RCA's from the new unit. However, I've heard other people utilize the turn-on from the factory amp to avoid having to run more wires to the trunk.
I appreciate any input.

The install is not straightforward, you need to bypass the factory amp if the new headunit is is amplified. Just unplug the harness from the amp and use the remote from there, just remember to hook it up in front.
