Question to dealers....

If you sell a display model - say it's been on display for 3-4 months, and the display is very very slightly scratched up, how much would you knock off the price? What would be fair..10%, 15%?

Thanks!

Sounds like it's a head unit. Head units in general have no margin in them to speak of, so 10% of your total price is like half the profit.

I usually wouldn't sell a demo unit at a discount if it was current, i'd wait for the next order. If it was enabling a larger sale (a whole system) I'd probably charge normal, but trade it for a new one and put it back in the board when the new order came in.

If it was discontinued, again, it would depend on whether or not it was enabling a system sale, but then I'd probably cut it 15-20 percent.

I was just asking casue my shop installed a demo model without telling me. I found out becasue I noticed the display was scratched up - slightly. They aplogized and said they "thought" someone told me. The way I see it is, they basically sold me a used deck - casue it's been powered every day for at least 3-4 months, and who knows who's been touching it and pressing buttons randomly. So they told me to go back and they would knock some money off of it and I;m wondering how much could I expect or ask them to take off.

Don't take the money. They deceived you. Get what you paid for.
