question about dvd player and a multi switcher.
Ok I hope this is not a dublicate post. Here is what i want to do.
It seems you can get all the stuff to switch from dvd to navi using the info some people have posted on here. (thanks by the way)
But does this mean if you want to watch a movie you flip the switch and get out the car eject the navi cd and put in a movie and you are ready to go. RIGHT?
Because I think it would be better for me to keep the navi the way it is and buy a trunk mountable dvd player and switch back and forth. That way i don't have to stop and change discs. if i am correct in this assumption.
If that is the case, would i just need a dvd player(trunk mount) the avi switcher or multi switcher with fm modulator, and the harness to go on the back of the screen and the switch of course.
sorry for not keeping up with all of this.
because i can get a dvd player for 99 and the multi av switcher with built in remote and fm modulator for 129.
maybe i am confused.

The Navi to video conversion is for the video display only. It makes use of only the monitor. The stock DVD Navi unit in the trunk is not capable of playing DVD movies (yet) so even with the conversion, you still need a video source. Using a Navi to Video converter (i will explain options later) you will be able to leave the stock nav intact and even running in the background while watching a movie, tv, etc. The nav will still talk to you, and even the touchscreen will still work while watching a movie on it (if you know the position of the on screen buttons).
There is a lot of info on this site about this. But to make it simple:
1) You need a Composite to RGB Converter to make use of the nav display for video
2)You will need a video source (TV tuner (which is useless) or DVD, VCR)
3)You will need a way to get sound into your stock head unit
www.streeteffectz.com Contact them if you are not a do-it-yourselfer and for about $500-$600 you can have a unit that does it all. This includes a TV Tuner, Blitzsafe Aux input to your factory deck, switcher,RGB decoder, and more that requires no wire cutting into your factory wires. Not that there are a lot of wires to cut, but some people aren't into that.
I thought it was a little pricey at first, but by the time I bought and made a switcher for my RGB decoder ($160), bought the Blitzsafe Aux input adapter for the sound ($80), bought a TV Tuner/switcher ($150) It would have been worth it to get the one from streeteffectz, IMO.
So if you are not afraid of a little solder and some simple splices then look at the stick at the top of this forum. Also search for Navi to Video conversion pics and you will see my install.
Good Luck,
mark

It may take a while to sort out, but keep in mind that the Pioneer RGB1 that is talked about at length and is discontinued, no one can seem to get them. The converter I found is a similar replacement.

Yeah i found a company that might have been talked about on here. They had the AVI multisource unit. In their gallery they show the AVI mounted under the dvd navi and pluged right to it. See i can buy this power acoustik multi source unit called AVIR-3, audio video controler. I was trying to find out if that would work and i could just buy the harness that goes from that to the dvd navi. But i don't think so.
I've got it now. I know a lot of stereo stuff but not too much on car video. but i got it now. thanks
