The old PlayStation 2s have their power supply inside, so you'll have to go with an inverter with those, but the newer ones have an external "brick". So, mebbe you could find an adapter. It'd have to be a pretty beefy one, tho....

My question is, how can I get the car to drive itself so I can play Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2?

Sure why not? Maybe better to run wire to the battery though...

Do you even need an inverter? Like any other computer it probably only needs 12V and maybe 5V feeds... Seems like a waste to convert DC to AC back to DC... Anyone know for sure?

The PS2 slim is a bit different. I think it needs 9v. I need to figure out how to convert it so I can get rid of my converter.

Should be the same basic idea, no? Just use a different voltage regulator IC and possibly a bigger heat sink.

I did a google, and it did take some searching, but it looks like Intec makes the car adapter for the slim PS2. Plug into your cig lighter. About $10. Couldn't be easier. Ok it could be easier to find, but once you actually have one, then it couldn't be easier.

Yeah, it would be a lot quicker, easier, and less room for error opening that (http://ostg.pricegrabber.com/search_...sterid=9370157) and soldering a power & ground wire than cracking open a PS2 and soldering some components onto the power supply board.

Do you still need a filter if you use the car adapter? If so how and where would you put it?

The filter is more for the actual video screen/monitor. You shoudln't need one, but it wouldn't hurt.
