Power and your Alternator

Ok, I've hear tons of amp power freaks that it is very recommened to change your alternator to a higher powered one becuase of all the power you'd run for amps and indash displays and all that other stuff you'd wanna hook up. Has any one done this?? or would recomend doing this for an indash display setup with a 800 watt amp and an Xbox??

I got my alternator from www.4alterstart.com and it got rid of all my dimming issues. I'm running a Concept 2400a amp that puts out 2400RMS at 1ohm and draws a lot of freaking current. It's powering a 15" Orion H2 that is able to handle all 2400 watts so I knew that I would need the extra amperage. The alternator came out to around $300 with lifetime warranty. I think the 1 for the 98CL is cheaper.

If you only plan on running a 800w amp, xbox and a screen....you may not need to upgrade. My advice would be to install everything and see how it works. If you start having voltage issues then consider the alternator & maybe even a battery. Good luck

optima yellow top battery and a 1 farad capacitor... guarentee u wont have any dimming or problems. And the cap will help your amp run cleaner as well.

well the cap is like a bandaid that can mask your power issues... it may stop the dimming... it may not...

even with the 180A alternator and an Optima Yellow and 4.8 Farads of capacitance, i still can get my lights to dim

i would recomend an alternator, and you should be running capacitors for amp safetly and cleaner music... it will make the long base notes sound better and not endanger your amps from low voltages. people spend 3 grand on a system and then want to buy a battery and be done with it... just seems ass backward to me.
