Does anyone know if the stock subwoofers are supposed to have 12 v power even when the car is off?

I recently had a problem where smoke started coming from the amp which also damaged one of the stock subs. A few days later my battery was dead. So I've been checking if there is anything draining my battery.

If not, any ideas on how I can figure out if something is draining the battery?

 

An amp would have +12v going into the power and 0 volts going to the remote turn on input when the ignition is off.
Check to see if there is anything that is powered on when the ignition is off.
Did you check the Avelectronics Navi Converter or DVD player?

 

My money is on the DVD player (unless the amp was bad or hoked up wrong...)

Do you have access to a digital multimeter that can measure current ?

 

Do you have a capacitor in there? if you do, make sure there's A RELAY working properly. The relay is supposed to disconnect the cap when u shut the engine or sound system off. Since a cao is always discharging slowly, and power is contantly replenished by your car battery, it'll go dead pretty quick if the relay doesn't disconnect.

 

The dvd player gets power through the power outlet in the front. It has a plug that I can plug in or take out whenever I want. The power outlets don't get power when the car is off at least as far as I know. Yes I do have a multimeter. Any suggestions on where I should test? I had the amp in there for about 11 months now and it was fine. I pulled the fuse out to break the circuit for the wires for the amp in case it was draining the battery and the battery is still losing power. Either the battery is bad or something is still drainging the battery. The only thing that I found strange was that the rear deck subwoofers had power with the car off. Is this normal on the TSX?

 

No capacitor. I have the license plate back-up camera and the avelectronic switcher as well which are getting power from the ignition.

 

Is it possible it could be the blitzsafe adapter?

 

After testing the rear deck subs and discovering they had power w/ the car off I pulled the stock amp fuse. The battery draining still continued. I later noticed the stock amp would get hot even w/ the car off! So I remove the stock amp yesterday and the problem is solved! The weird thing about it is that the amp stil works except for this problem. I'm guessing there is something wrong internally which prevents it from shutting off.

Any experts have any ideas? I'm hoping I can fix or mod the amp instead of replacing it.

 

Have you made sure that the remote circuit wasn't staying hot all the time? The transistor output of the remote circuit in the radio could short to hot all the time...

If the amp remote shorted I would be a little concerned about why... but I guess it could just be bad luck.

 

Trying to find what was killing my battery I noticed that the amp was getting very hot even with the car off. I didn't test any of the wires on the connectors though. Once I removed the amp, the battery was fine. My aftermarket amp was getting signal from the rear deck subs, both of them started smoking a few weeks ago and were damaged. Now it seems the stock amp was damaged also. I don't know where the problem started though. How would I know if it's the amp or the headunit that has the problem. They both still work fine except that my battery gets drained with the car off.
