power question

hey i just finished my system install which consists of an mtx 801D pushing 2 12" 8000's and kenwood 600 watt amp running my infinity kappa interiors. of course its dimming my lights and i also have a 1 farad digital top cap. Anyone have any suggestions (other then a new alternator) on how to reduce the dimming lights.

upgrade the following wires with 4 gauge power wires

1. alternator to battery
2. battery negative to chassis
3. engine ground to chassis

GSteg is right, upgrade those wires - and I'm going to assume that you do have 4 awg wire already for the system. Don't bother changing you battery if someone suggests that, b/c that's not the solution, only a ghetto fix.

Upgrading the alternator is the best way - I mean you lights dim for a reason: there isn't enough power. A cap provides instantanious power for peaks - it's not really meant to provide constant power. You could have someone with a clamp DMM check and see how much power your system is pulling, and subtract that from what your alternator is putting out. Chances are, it's too much of a load. It's really not as bad as you think. You can probably pick up an Ohio Generator for $400 or so.

Make sure all ground points and other connections are clean. No paint, no rust, or dirt.
