Power to a dvd

How do you get power to a dvd player under the passenger seat? Do you have to get it directly from the battery? If so, what kind of wire should I use? The wire that came with the unit is only 2 feet long and has an inline fuse.

If not, where is the source of the power?

I want to power a blaupunkt me-1. It is 1.5amps.

I'd appreciate it if someone would give me a simplified answer.

You can get power from the seat motor's wires, however, I wouldn't touch them since it's hard to access them. You can get power by tapping to the power outlet's wire in the center console or connect your dvd player's wire to a power plug (sold at Walmart, K-Mart, Auto Zone, ect.) and plug it in the power outlet. You can also use the way I posted in your other thread. Good luck.

Three questions:
1. What does the power plug look like?
2. What power outlet does it plug into?
3. When you say I could just tap into it, does that mean just splicing?

Again, thanks for the continuing help. It is hard for me to understand these installs and I appreciate the patience.

1. They look like the "power plug", the type that you plug in Cigarette lighter outlet.
2. The one next to "not an ashtray" thing or inside the center console.
3. Yes, but you have to know how to remove the center console and basic electrical knowledge.

Is step 3 like this?

The way I think it would work is as follows. I remove the panels to get to the cig lighter wires in the center console (I found another thread with instructions). Then I remove a section of the insulation from the red wire. I intertwine the power wire of the dvd to this section and cover with electrical tape. Then I ground the dvd player to either the black wire with the same procedure or to unpainted metal. Is that right?

Is there any other basic electrical knowledge I need?

Why is he doing this instead of just tapping the battery directly?

Because he is gonna have a hard time running the wire from the battery through the firewall. Look at his sig and you will understand. Also, the solution is the simplest way to go.
