Please help with wiring config for dvc 2ohm sub with xtant mono amp...

I just got an old school xtant a3001 mono amp to power (1) RF punch p2D212 dual voice coil sub in a sealed box. The sub has dual 2ohm voice coils.

Now I just need clarification on how to wire this amp/sub combo to get the best performance?

The amp is rated as follows (though xtant amps are generally quite underrated in terms of power)

RMS watts per channel @ 4ohms = 1 x 150
RMS watts per channel @ 2ohms = 1 x 300

The specs of the sub are as follows:

Power handling RMS = 250 watts
Power Handling (peak) = 500 watts

However, I'm a bit confused as to those power ratings are for each voice coil or both voice coils combined?

So, I'm assuming what I want to do here is wire the subs to the amp as follows:

Which will result in each of the 2ohm voice coils culminating in a 4ohm total load, so 150 watts to each voice coil? Or am I not understanding that right? Or is there a way to wire it for a 2ohm total load to get double the power?

I'm kind of utterly confused, but any clarification would be greatly appreciated, as I plan on doing the installation tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!

well i think it depends.

looks like the diagram above is for wiring in series, which i believe would work for you if you really have dual 2 ohm voice coils.

You described your sub as having dual 2 ohm voice coils, are you sure it's not dual 4 ohm voice coils?

If the sub has dual 4 ohm voice coils then you will want to wire in parallel to present a 2 ohm load to the amp.

i believe to wire the sub in parallel you will have to wire the positive lead from one voice coil to the positive lead of the other voice coil and negative to negative.

yeah man, its a dual 2ohm voice coil sub

I think I should have gotten a dual 4ohm voice coil sub instead so I could run it at 2ohms. Oh well. I'll try wiring it up tomorrow just like in my original post and hopefully that'll satisfy my bass urges, else I'll be looking for a dvc 4ohm sub

thanks

just a quick follow up question, on my first posted setup, does it mean that each voice coil is getting 150 watts rms, or does it mean that it's a shared 150 watts rms between the 2 voice coils?

means 150 watts total at 4 ohms.

you could either get a new sub or find an amp thats stable at 1 ohm and run that sub at 1 ohm by wiring in parallel. i never really looked for a 1 ohm stable amp but im sure their out there.

found a ton of 1 ohm amps on ebay, so at least you know there are some out there. problem is they all put out more rms wattage than your sub can handle.

maybe its time for a new subwoofer, i'm thinkin you should try a dual 4 ohm. then you wouldnt have to get a new amp.

i have a 10" jl 10w3 right now in a sealed box and it hits hard for just 1 10" sub. I used to have a 12" infinity kappa perfect dual voice coil and that thing was nice too!!

good luck bro.

thanks again for the help man

ended up going with the xtant 3300x 5 channel amp. It's a beast and it's gonna power my entire system and really clean up my install. Also got the p2 4ohm version instead, so everything should be coming together a lot nicer soon. Thanks brah
