Please help me select a set of DLS 6.5" components

So after reading up a lot on components, I'm interested to try out DLS in my first gen CL and see what all the hype is about.

Mind you, these will be driven off an old school xtant 3300x amp, with the following (underrated) RMS ratings:

60x2 @4ohms

or

2x120 @2ohms

I'm spying the following three models of DLS : the entry level C6a, r6a, and the m6a. The up6 is nice, but just out of my price range.

Now are there any huge noticable differences between these models? I can get the c6's for about 100 bucks, the r6's for about 30 more, and the m6's for 160. I'm just wondering what would be my best bang for the buck and match for my xtant, as I'd rather not put out more than I need to spend for virtually the same discernable performance.

Thanks much!

I have the same set in my TSX. I was looking at other options that cost about double what retail was on the DLS. When I heard them, I was very impressed, and was then sold once I was told the price. I ended up getting them for a similar price as you and couldn't be happier.

^^ awesome man

yeah I've read a lot about DLS and they are some great great stuff, at great prices. Used in a lot of IASC competitions. I'm totally looking forward to hearing how well they go with the xtant amp, should be silky smooth. Just curious, how did you mount the tweeters? I was debating using the factory tweeter spots up in the top of the dash (facing up at windshield) but think it will probably hurt the soundstage severely : /

Where did you get those for 150 if you don't mind me asking.

Just if you bought them off ebay could be DLS knock off's....

Be very careful which vender(s) you buy from.... IMO For products like DLS, Zapco, Arc Audio, etc I only deal with authorized dealers...

Factory tweeter location actually stages very well - you may need to attenuate to tone for your personal tastes - however I have had success with SEAS and DLS tweets in the factory location. A quick search of the installs in the 3g Audio forum will show this.

Edit:

Even though its a CL - the imaging will be similar....

Yeah, I was going to reply with the same thing. I am very happy with them there in my TSX. I was a little apprehensive, but had heard from others who were happy with them there, so I gave it a shot. There are some tweeters (mainly much brighter metal domes) that I wouldn't want to try it with, but very happy with the DLS there.

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess I will mount them in the factory locations when they come in.

jnc: I am fully aware of the counterfeit dls's floating around in the secondary market. I did get mine off ebay, but the vendor has hundreds of feedback virtually flawless. I know exactly what to look for too, so if they do come in and I spot discrepancies, I will definitely fight for a refund or expose them.

Managed to recently score a DLS MW12 sub for a crazy price too. I might need a dedicated sub amp to power it though, as the 3300x isn't really designed to push big air.

Thanks
