Play video on your navi. kit now available
Many people have asked how to play video on 1999-2001 Acura or Honda navigation screens.
I've spent hours engineering a design for my own Honda navigation display using industry leading parts. It's working so well, I've decided to make this design available to you!
Imagine flipping a switch on your dash and being able to watch movies or videos. Flip the switch back and your navigation screen reappears. Simply add in-car or portable VHS, DVD or TV tuner. Any composite video source will work! You could even plug a video game console.
Here is what the kit will contain.
(1) Decoder for NTSC composite video
NTSC composite video input
NTSC composite video output (no navi.)
+12V, remote 'on' and parking break* wires
(1) Fully wired dash mounted Switch
(1) Instructions for installation
* Many (if not all) states require this for safe and legal operation.
Kit cost $180 + shipping. I'll be taking orders for the first kits now. Put in your reservation with me if interested. Or feel free to ask questions.

I would love to see the NAV screen after about 6 months or so and see that it's not burned. I'm sure other's have the same concern.
How long have you been using DVD on the NAV screen? Any issues yet?

I'm using a leading car audio manufactures video decoder. Designed for their own mobile LCD screens. It's a quality part. It doesn't interface with the existing fluorescent backlight, so no chance of burning that out.
In fact, I recommend setting the brightness in navigation mode then switching over to video.
Now if you watch video in your car all the time, instead of your home TV then you could possibly burn the screen out, but that wouldn't be covered :-}
Also to follow-up on a posting here and make it pefectly clear this unit *WILL NOT* convert your DVD navigation system to play DVD movies. It will however allow you to plug in a portable DVD player or in-car DVD player with composite video output.

P.S. Just designed and installed my own. You can wait months if you like or get feedback from other users who will have one, like StreetFxz.

Coming to a city near you
Are you including any kind of connectors or do you have to cut and solder everything. You would sell a lot more if you could simply plug-n-play.

Left my digital camera at work. I'll shoot a couple close up screen shots later today and post this evening.
To answer a few other questions.
Yes, all 8 video wires will have connectors. The power leads and parking break wire have Tap-in squeeze connectors. Only tools needed are wire cuters/stripers and pliers with a wire crimp (to squeeze the connectors on). No soldering required. A 1/4" hole may be needed to mount the navigation/video switch beside (top, bottom, left or right) of the display - your choice.
The parking break wire prevents the display from showing video when the parking break is not set. This is a legal requirement in most states and I'm including it for your safety and my legal protection. For those of you not interested in this function you can connect this wire to your car chassis ground or simply attach it to the black wire included in the kit.

It's very easy to install. I'll include directions and all you need to do is match up the 4 wire colors and cut. Then crimp on 8 wire connectors (provided) and squeeze on 3 wire clamps (provided) for Power, ground and parking break.
For most the difficult part will be taking the dash cover off to get to the back of the navigation display.

Well...I'm definitely interested in one after seeing the pix posted, but will this require someone to install it? Or is it easy enough to do myself. I'm pretty good with directions but I have not really messed with the internal electronics of a car.
