The voice recognition does not work, the navigation screen keeps locking up (I have to reset it every so often). Recently I had a problem playing CD's. I am pretty sure this is isolated, so my dealer agreed to replace the unit. I have a very good relationship with them, and have bought a lot of things from them so the store manager said if I was willing to wait a few weeks he would give me the AVIC-N2.

I upgraded to version 1.2 and I am still able to watch dvd on the move. Is there version 1.3 out?
MeldyS26- By grounding the ebrake wire, the system thinks you are parked so that you can watch a dvd on the move. It has no effect on your ebrake.

I was thinking about putting the AVIC-N1 in another car but then read the installation manual. It says that it should not be put near vents where excessive temperatures from the heater/AC will blow on the screen. I don't see how you can put that in most cars as most have vents right above the radio din area. So I didn't buy it. Anyone have any issues with the vents blowing on it and causing issues with the touch screen?

by the way I have 2 new Pioneer avc-rgb1 boxes that will allow you to hook up a ps2 or a dvd player to your stock screen or other screens. Comes with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase if interested.

I wasn't aware that the AVIC-N2 is out already. I thought Pioneer was going to wait until January '05 to announce the release date. How much does the AVIC-N2 cost and is it any better then the AVIC-N1? Did Pioneer take care of that humming sound that I heard the N1 has? Where can I get it, because i'm looking around and I can't find the AVIC-N2 anywhere?

My dealer told me he will get the unit middle of January. The only difference I am aware of is the NAVTraffic functionality. I am pretty sure the humming sound will still be there, it comes from the huge fan that is inside. I wish they had made the unit double-din. I don't really care for the motorized screen on my N1. I will post pics as soon as I have it installed.

whats grounding mean and can i do it myself after the units installed
and porshah do you know if you can burn videos on a cdr and then play them in the unit? will it read the disc and play it?

Grounding is a reference point in terms of electricity. Electricity is always trying to get to the ground. It will take the easiest path it can find. If something that conducts electricity touches it and gives electricity an easy path to the ground, electricity will travel through it.
You don't have to touch the ground directly to conduct electricity. You could also be touching something that is in contact with the ground, like a tree. In the car, the chassis is grounded. Good place to look is in the fuse box.
As for playing cdr with video, I have never tried that. I am not sure the unit can read mpeg or avi files to play video.

I have the N1 installed in my TSX. I have the voice recognition, tv tuner, the bluetooth kit. Let me know if you have any questions about the install.
YOu can read this thread for info on it:

It's pretty tight man....Cuz it gives you two things.
1) Remote on your steering wheel to control everything (There is a drawback though, you gotta get use to having on the wheel cuz it does have a piece that goes over the outside of the wheel. Take a look at my pics.) It's really useful, I barely even touch the deck itself. It also helps to keep the buttons/faceplate in good shape. I've had Pioneers in the past and I've really liked all of them, but the one thing that seems to get wrong is the faceplace gets F'd up.
2) Voice control of just about every feature you can think of. Everything from switching tracks, switching between the navi/av, canceling routes, switching between disc/tv/ radio. Also with any of the places you went to already you can register them with a icon and then also give them a voice label. So you can say "John's house" and the navi will look it up and make that address the next destination.
It does some other crap too...let me know if you want more info.
