Pioneer AVIC-Z3?

Howdy all

I'm just doing a bit of daydreaming and was curious to know if anyone had any experience with this beauty. I know it's extraordinarily expensive, but what little I've read about it has made me fall in love with it.

My questions are as follows:

1) Should I have any issues getting this into a 2003 TL-S?

2) So far I'm very used to using a Garmin GPS. How does the one on this deck stack up?

3) How long do you think it'll be until someone spots it in my car, breaks a window and tries to run off with it?

4) Anyone think it's REALLY worth the price? Are there better alternatives out there with similar screen size, functionality, aesthetics and navigation?

Thanks!

1.You'll have to buy the double din dash kit, like the one uncald4 sells ($103 shipped iirc), or the one metra just started making.

2. I've used the z2, which is pretty much the same thing, and I currently have the kenwood dnx8120 which uses garmin gps. I think the garmin is somewhat more accurate, but I think you'll still be satisfied with the pioneer gps.
The avic will also display 2D and 3D maps side by side, which is pretty cool i think.

3.I think it won't be that easy to notice since the screen is always displayed, making it look stock at a glance.

4. I was in your situation, and personally, I think as far as 7in non-flip screen decks go, your best bets are the
-Avic z1/2/3,
-kenwood dnx7120/dnx8120
the JVC nx7000
BUT if after you're done researching those and you still want the z3, the cheapest way is to find a used z1 or z2, and upgrade to a bigger hard drive loaded with the software of the z3. You'll have a z3, for less than half the cost of a new one. That's why I recommend visiting avic411.com

Z3 is quite pricey i find. I've played around the Pioneer vs the Kenwood players at the shops. I personally like the layout of Pioneer more. But Kenwood's got the Garmin GPS which is great =)

The Z1 hardware is identical to the Z2 and Z3. You can update the software to the newer specs.

The only downside I can see, is that you won't know how much life the hard drive will have left if you buy used.

I'm willing to bet that most places that do install aren't going to have this dash kit in stock. Its cheaper, and easier to just order one and be done. Took like three days to get mine - http://www.installer.com/item/displa...hp?it=95-7868B
Best price your gonna find. You can order your wiring harness and everything all in one spot. Great prices and quick shipping. Hope this helps.

On a side note, i was thinking about writing up a DIY for installing a double din unit with instructions on how I ran the wires and stuff. Anyone interested? The Facts section didn't have one for the CL.
