Pioneer AVIC-N1

I'm thinking about buying the Pioneer AVIC-N1. It seems like a pretty good deal for having both a Navigation system and a DVD player. I wanted Alpine, but it's too expensive and Pioneer is a good brand. Does anybody already have this installed in their car? What do you think of it? Any other recommendations?

I have it in my TL right now. The fan noise is the only complaint I have regarding this unit. The audio, navi and dvd features are excellent. I am probably going to upgrade to the AVIC N2 most likely. Hope they fixed the fan noise issue.

When does it hum? Is it only when using the DVD player or does it do it on other features like the CD player, radio, or navigation. If it's just the DVD player I can live with it, because I can adjust the volume or get a DVD changer if that doesn't help. Also, Is the Navigation system Accurate?

It hums all the time. That's what I do now, is just turn the volume up.

It hums because it doesn't know the words.

Is it possible to watch DVD's using the screen that folds into the Dash? I hear it's illegal to have a movie playing in the dash, so I would think that Pioneer wouldn't make using this screen to play DVD's an option. If it doesn't show the picture on this screen, is there a way to make it show the picture on the screen in the dash?

Yes you can. I don't remember for sure, but I think all you have to do is ground the wire that is supposed to be connected to the e-brake. This way the unit thinks you are "parked".
