passport 8500 dances on tsx

hey,

well i guess this would be a better place to post this. anyway.
i have been using my 8500 for a bout a week or two now. works great, havent had and REAL saves yet, but still none the less a great tool to keep on the windshield.

my only concern is right now that it dances/bounces all over the windshield on its little mount. i was wondering if any of the tsx uses here have bent thier clips or something different than it came in the box to fix this problem, or if its just something thats normal.

soon enough i should finish my hardwire install to the center of the windshield. should be interesting since everything is going to be clipped. pics will follow, but for now this is my question to you.

Normal. The 8500 mount isn't the most stable.

my 8500 has been in service for..hmmm...about 5 years or so...i've had it in many different cars (now in my 05 TL) and i just bent the clip a bit more to stabilize it. the only thing that causes problems is if i leave it on the windshield when it is hot outside (80F+) with too much sun...then the suction cups come off the glass.

Actually, the 8500 x50 is only $50-100 less than a V1 (depending on whether you get the red or blue display).

to each his own, i've had both side by side and seperate.... i'd take the v1 anytime.... design, construction, mount, arrows.......all worth $50/100 more.

The only thing i wish it had was different color LED's for all the bands...but someone already sells that.

I keep my passport mounted low on the windshield almost touching the dash. Its less conspicuous to police since its mounted low, and sometimes its overlooked by would be thieves with the mount left there.

I took a Doctor Scholls heel pad or something like that and mounted it to the bottom. Its a rubber curved piece, sold at Walgreens and Walmarts. Grey piece of adhesive rubber that mounts to the upper rear heel of a shoe to protect the rear of your ankle. Anyways it keeps it from vibrating and bouncing against the dash where I have mine mounted.

That's not a great mounting location. You need a clear view of the rear also. The higher the better for a RD.

Bend the clip a bit to a smaller angle. Then adjust which "notch" you allow it to click into on the clip so you get a horizontal position. If needed, take a small piece of hard foam tape with adhesive on one side and place a strip on the top of the unit, at the rear. This should hold it firm against the windsheild.
