I've been told not to go with Infinity, so here is the new combo:

JL 10w3v2
HIFONICS BX1000D Amp

Yay or nay?

I see nothing wrong with either choice. If they fit your budget, go for it. JL makes great subs and HiFonics makes some good bang for the buck amps.

The second option should achieve your goal. How much you paying for the BX1000?

Hey Shimbo,

What Ohm DVC's are you planning on getting. Just an FYI, if you get the 2 ohm DVC that BX1000 may be a little much. It's 1000x1 @ 1 ohm and the 10W3V2 is only 300 RMS and if you look at JL website, optimal power is around 500 watts and gets into the danger zone at like 700 watts and voids warranty at 1000 watts.

If you want to stick with this set up, may I suggest getting the 4 ohm DVC and running the BX1000 at a 2 ohm load so that output is 500x1(optimal power)

Nothing wrong with Infinity subs as long as you get the Perfect 10/12.

I just ordered this:

Infinity 100.3SE 10" sub
Hifonics Brutus BX1000D Amp

Can someone give me some input as to how to wire this setup? I don't plan on doing it myself, but I just want to have some knowledge of what is ideal before I go to a shop and have them BS with me. Thanks.

Ummm, ya should checked in here first before ya ordered that. The 100.3SE is a 4 ohm SVC sub so you don't have wiring options. With the BX1000 wired to that sub it will be a 4 ohm load which only outputs 250 watts. I'm sure this isn't what you were looking for, or is it

IMO, you should have went with the 100.3DVC which is obviously Dual Voice coil and has different wiring options. It's 2 ohm so you could of had the BX1000 wired for a 1 ohm load which outputs 1000 watts. It would be wired like so:

damn, i guess i misunderstood what some ppl told me on other boards. I guess I am going to have to go with the first diagram. Will it sound bad? Is 250 watts sufficient power to actually make a difference in sound?

I only have 200w on my ED 12 and it pounds pretty bood when i let it loose. the sub you got is rated at 275 rms and the amp you got is rated at 350 rms in the voice coil configuration that you will have. That being said you are going to be golden assuming you tune the amp correctly. It ought to sound really good.

Scott,

The RMS @ 4 ohms for the BX1000 is 250W not 350. Not saying that it won't sound good but I think shimbo was looking for a little more power. If he got the DVC he would have been able to push that sub to the max when he wanted to and he could always turn the gain down to achieve optimal performance. I'd probably give that sub around 500 watts. Then again it has a lot to do with your preference and enclosure. The DVC just gives you more options. You could always run the DVC at 4 ohms as well but if you wanted to show what the sub can really do you could make it a 1 ohm load.

Shimbo, If I were you I would call them up and change your order for the DVC. It shouldn't be a problem if that's what you want. DVC's are the way to go.

This is very confusing. On the Hifonics Website and several Ebay auctions, it states that the RMS for 4 ohms is 350Watts. However, on other ebay auctions, it states 4ohms at 250 Watts. I'm assuming Hifonics Website is correct in their data. So with that said, then this should be alright correct?

the hifonics site is correct. in fact if anything that amp is a little underrated so you may actually get a little more than 350 out of it. All in all you will be fine for the setup you are trying to build, and with that amp you are already set up if you want to add anaother sub in the future.

My mistake, I've seen them listed all over the place as 250x1 at 4 ohms, but I would think that the Hifonics site has the official specs. With that said, I would still try and get the DVC. It's only a few more bucks out of your pocket and you would get so much more out of that sub and amp. It's just the smarter choice. You have more options. Plus. like I said how many watts will suffice has a lot to do with your car and enclosure. You can't solely make your decision based on the amp and the woofer.
