Post opinions on Cerwin-Vega subs.

Anybody want to comment on C-V Stealth subwoofers?

I got a 12" sub for my TL, originally wanted JL Audio but the shop was out of stock on JL's in that size (having only 10s). They pitched the CV S-12 on me pretty hard as an equally good sub, though to be fair they let me take the CV and offered full credit if I decided to wait for the JL Audio after a few days (not exactly a bait-and-switch scenario).

My previous car was an Integra LS coupe with a JL Audio Microsub in the trunk, which sounded nice and tight. The bass now sounds kind of muddy though it might be that I have to reduce the sub gains on my amp, or remove the stock subwoofer (would it cause some sort of resonance?).

Any suggestions or comments?

in an integra of my friends, we installed stroker series subs. 12". They POUND SOO HARD. I have never heard such clean and clear, yet stron sounding subs in a car ever. The whole cerwin vega line of subs, stoker and stealth alike are great. I haven't had the chance to work w/ JL audio subs as much, but i would always recomend cerwin vega subs. They are clean, clear, powerful, and for the most part, affordable.

Thanks for the good words, Merlyn. I will look at my gains, perhaps adding an EQ (no matter what I do my MB Quart fronts sound way too trebly ).

Cool

i'd say go with the JL's...or the Boston Pro's or Infinity Perfects...they pound hard and are cleaner than the C-V's

If you still haven't bought the C-V's yet, then what's your budget...approx. The infinity kappa perfects are incredible...i would rate them a few notches' higher than the CV's. Don't get me wrong..in my soon to come Integra type-R...i'm going to either put 12" cerwin vega strokers...or the infinity's. Cerwin vega has great equipment in the car audio section. I really admire their work. They last forever...and they'll bump harder and harder the more you push them.

actually i'd have to say get the warranty if you get the perfects because they do blow out...but they pound till they go...cause in my Diamante, i have 2 perfect 12's...they go once a year...but they sound amazing...better than my Bostons...

just a thought, have you thought to look at the polk audio momo 12" subs?...i heard them earlier today...and those were very well tuned. They sound much better than the boston competitors...but are much more power hungry. just a thought.

I've had the 12" C-V Stealth in my trunk for about 4 months now, so it's too late to exchange it I would think. It sounds fine, just too loud sometimes relative to the rest of the music, and I think the occasional muddiness I'm hearing is due to the stock sub (which is disconnected but still in place) resonating with the vibration.

I'd love to swap in JL, Kappas, etc. to compare, but basically, I can't, so I won't.

I think removing the stock sub and putting in an EQ with an independent subwoofer control would help; I'll find out tomorrow!

best subwoofer for the money: image dynamics IDQD2 for 129, which will outdo most subs such as JL W6, MOMOS, etc.

cerwin's??.. one word- STROKER!!
damn those things kicked a$$ at audio thunder...

there are tons of great subs out there... boston's, infinity's, kicker solo's, etc..
but one of the best bang for the buck that i've encountered are those new Alpine Type-R's

IF you want a clean sounding woofer, I suggest looking in Crystal or JL audio. These sub give clean sounding bass. However, I'm more of a Raw power, ground shaking bass type of person

Stokers may pound hard as hell, but they are not a clean subwoofer. If you want clean heard hitting bass, then wait for JL's new W7 series. One 12 is supposed to outpound 4 JL W6 10's and 3 JL W6 12's. They are supposed to be amazing. Plus, it will be a lot cleaner sub in the sense that it will be able to hit highs and very low lows, and not require such a large box.

Ever consider ALUMAPRO ? Clean, tight bass. Most every car I have done I have done with Alumapros.

gotta say that strokers r the only subs i would deal with from CV jus becuz a couple of the CV subs i've dealt with have blown , try out a 10 or 12 inch stroker even though the box is moderatly big u would NEVER regret the investment. make sure who ever builds the box gets specs for the box according to ur car becuz everytime I've done a setup with a stroker CV always says to call and get info from them because if they can save u space and box material they will.
