I think i've read everything on this board about changing the speakers and i'm still confused. I'm not a audio expert at all so I still have a couple of questions?
All these questions pertain to the 2002 TL-S
1.) What size are the front/rear speakers? I keep reading about different sizes. My best guess is that they are 5.25".
2.)If you change out the front/rear speakers so should definetly get and amp to run them, right?
3.)Apparently you need a line out converter(LOC). What exactly is that? Where does it go in the path of this. I would guess that it goes between the head unit and amp. Is that right?
Thanks in advance for the audio lesson.

1. The door speakers are 6" with a 1" baffle. A new baffle will have to be made for an aftermarket speaker. People have fit 6.5" to 5.25" speakers in the doors.
2. Yes
3. LOC is a Line-Out Converter. it converts the HU speaker outputs(high-level) to low-level signals to be used by an amp. Some amps are rated to use a high-level signal input but most don't.

What are good LOCs and how much do they cost? Is it the same as a crossover? I'm looking at onlinecaraudio.com and i don't see an LOC's. Where would you put the LOC in the car? Is a baffle just a spacer to keep the speaker from going to deep in the door.
Sorry for all the questions.

-PM StreetEffectz for good LOC's and prices. He can get you what you need too.
Is it the same as a crossover?
-No, a LOC converts a high-level signal to a low-level signal from your HU to your amp. A crossover acts as a signal filter between your amp and speakers. It lets certain frequencies thru and blocks others. For instance, a sub doesn't need/want any freq's usually below 250Hz or so, so you install a low pass crossover which will let only the low freq's thru to you sub, usually set to 80Hz or so.
Where would you put the LOC in the car?
-Most commonly next to the HU, but can be installed anywhere.
Is a baffle just a spacer to keep the speaker from going to deep in the door?
-Yes. Also, a well installed baffle will give a sturdy base to mount your speaker to so as to keep the basket from flexing and distorting. It also adds rigidity to your inner door panel which will also enhance your midbass.
