Question Not all things are created equal....

We know that there are different levels of quality with car audio, but what about capacitors? A cap is pretty much two conductors electrially charged seperated by a dielectric and passes DC and blocks AC right? So is one better than another? If so, what makes it better?

alumapro... but of course there are going to be people out there that saw caps are a waste of money... i think that they help out with the deep bass notes but really wont help to much if your lights dim every time there is a bass note... in that case you may want to upgrade the batter to a yellow top or upgrade the alternator to a high output...

Shawhite,

You've got a thing for alumapro huh? I looked at thier stuff (from my other thread on subs), its pretty good but slightly out of the price range I wanted to spend. The Alchemy MX 12 is $180, and the numbers dont look as good as the Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1d.

As far as the cap being a waste of money; the point of the cap is to provide the amp with a constant voltage, so the amp will operate more smoothly.

yeah i really like alumapro.... and yeah the numbers on the alumapro might not look as good as the perfects but trust me they sound way better... as far as the cap...there is always going to be people that dont think it works but i think that it helps somewhat... and i have the alumapro 5 cap in my system...

Shaw,

Just fricken GREAT, after reading your post on what others think about caps I was doing more reading on sounddomain.com and it looks like some people say a cap isnt neccisary! I figured if I was running 2 amps, one at 40 X 4 rms, and one at 280 X 1 rms I might need a cap to regulate the power supply to them. I know the power requirment for my setup is not as great as others out there...but I dont want to go through the same fun I went through with replacing 3 GM CS alternators!

to be honest i dont think that you will have any power problems... and with the setup you have listed i would not even worry about getting a cap...

I have a Brax cap. They invented the audio capacitor. Very high quality.
