Nice job.
I will actually be doing the same in my TLS in a week or 2.
Gotta see when I have the time but I already have all the parts for it. Very nicely done though. It seems you have the same outlook I do...those wires definitely need to be competely out of sight. I've seen some stereo systems with wires all over the place. All I can do is shake my head.

Well as you have read from the title I have successfully completed my install of the factory navigation into a non-navi tsx. I took me about 4 days due to the fact that I wasn’t sure off all the parts I needed so by the time I got all the pieces in and installed it took me about 4 days. Not to mention that no one else had done this before so I had to experiment.
This job is definitely not for beginners. Some knowledge of cars and wiring is needed to complete this long task. This also cannot be done with out both the service manual and the electrical manual from Helm’s. These two books were and still are a life saver.
When I originally started this venture I wanted to wait and find the Acura wire harness that goes behind the dash (navi edition) and the one for the passenger side floor harness that connects all the way in the back to the navigation (also navi edition). As I looked for pricing dealers I was going to spend about $1,500 just in harnesses. The dismantling of the dash which would have been necessary to install factory harnesses would have been a nightmare. So I decided to look for junkyards that might have them. Basically this was a waste of time because only about 5 junkyards had tsx’s. Then they either had cut the wire harnesses or they just didn’t want to part the car (meaning they would have to sell me the dash and half the car for me to get the wire harnesses). So I decided to try and make my own wire harness.
I ordered the electrical manual from helms and it all went down hill from there. After reviewing the electrical manual for several days/hours I figured out that all the wires for the navigation were a separate harness from the all the other car harnesses but they were ran in the same loop all the way to conceal all the wires. After this brilliant finding I decided to start dissection the car to see what was behind all the plastic and to confirm what wires came with the non-navi edition. The wiring was a bitch to say the least. Building shields for wires is a pain in tha ass. Anyways I had to go wire by wire dissecting the car so that I can run one wire at a time so that I wouldn’t get lost. There is a shit load of wires that need to be added to make this thing work and u must find all of them lol.

Soldering iron

I took as many pictures as I could of relevant things. Hardly took pictures of the actual wiring due to the fact that it is just a bunch of wires stuck together. There is a lot of dismantling of the car but don’t be afraid that is what the service manual is for.
This to dismantle:
Back seat
Gauge cluster
Left and right kick panels
Passenger side floor interior trim
Back seat shelf (speaker area)
Both left and right rear pillar air bag trim covers (to be able to pull out the shelf)
Center dash
Interior trim under and around steering wheel
Driver side airbag
You must also have the serial numbers for the tv and the navigation because you need to call acura and get navigation and radio unlock codes.

Was wondering if the offer to make a wire harness for NON-NAVI to NAVI mod still out there?
I have an '06 TSX with HFL and am in the process of ordering a complete navi system.
If so, How much?
PM me if the offer still stands.
Thanks.

Yeah, I know. Same problem here.
Problem is flopez82 hasn't logged on for about a month or so.
He as an awesome write up and his pictures, if I could see them, would help out a ton. Especially since I'm trying to do this mod myself on an'06 TSX no Navi. Putting in an '05 Navi unit.
These pics would've really come in handy.
flopex82- If you're out there checking out this thread, you'd be a life saver if you were able to repost pics or update them.

i will, but this sucks cause i'd like to get this fixed ASAP. i have ZERO control over anything in my dash board. the screen is completely useless right now.
how much did you buy your parts for? i dont understand how the entire navi option is 1900 more for a new car, yet 4000 for ONE part alone? the sum of all the parts should never exceed the total cost of the product new!!! this is insanity.

well the dealer quoted me for the parts only at 4000, labor not included. i found the drive for 3200 marked down from 4000 on acuraautomotiveparts.org. besides i can install the drive myself if i can just find a cheap one.
but i'm not following what you are saying about these being replacement pieces vs old pieces. the bottom line is if you buy a new tsx with navi, it is 1900 more than the non-navi version. so how can the drive alone be sold for 4000? i just need a stock dvd drive, whether its new or used i dont care, as long as it works.

oh i see what you mean about being replacement pieces, not REFURBISHED parts is what you mean. thats fine, but like i said above. the total cost for NEW tsx navigation, brand new out of the factory, is 1900 dollars. so following that logic, there should never exist an instance when any one of the sum of those parts should equal more than that total 1900. ESPECIALLY not more than double the price for only 1/4th of the total system! ahh well, i'm just really stressed about this whole mess. i understand parts break with wear and tear, etc. but they have to make things reasonable to replace. for 4000 i can rebuild a new engine in the car. and all i need is 1 simple dvd drive that looks like any other drive on the market.

Intermediate
I also want to have a Nav Conversion done but since the our Nav is severely outdated...I'd rather have an Android tablet installed and use it to manage the car's controls (sans AC)
I can't wait to start modding my ride. Hope to see you around.
