No more Bose (BLOWS)

Hello all,

I finally took the plung and got rid of the Bose HU. Replaced it with the new Double DIN Eclipse AVN2454. This served two purposes for me. 1-Improve the sound, 2-Got Navigation. The only drawback now is that I have a HUGE subwoofer in the trunk, since I was not able to use the BOSE sub. I have an Alpine MONO AMP driving the sub, and the HU is powering all original factory speakers. The system sounds really GREAT now.

I was next thinking about getting Focal 6.5inch Separates for front and Focal 6.5inch Coax in the back, and adding a 4CH JL Amp to drive them. I really want to get rid of the Sub to gain back my Trunk space. Good sound is important, but Trunk space is even more important. Do you think I can get away with just four speakers with the 4CH Amp? Or do I really need the Sub?

Anyone running just four speakers?

Also, does anyone know if the 6.5inch speakers will fit in the standard factory location?

TIA,
Jay

ok first i would suggest a sub of some sort.. i mean the 4 door speakers will give you the sound but without a sub you will not have that kick in the low freq... as for 6.5 fitting in the stock location.. well yes and no.. they will fit but you will have to at least make a spacer to bring them out the door some.. so how much did you pay for the headunit.. i have been thinking about getting one but they are a little pricey right now..

You are right about the sub. If I can find something that is small enough I would like to have it. The Focal speakers I am considering have a lot of bass.

I got a very nice deal on the AVN2454. It is selling for around $2800 to $3200. I paid $2200.

wow $2200... that is still kind of step for me.. i mean i dont even have that in my whole system.. ok there is a difference in the bass you are going to get from a mid/bass and the bass you will get from a sub.. one a sub is going to have a whole lot for spl and you will feel it alot more.. not to mention that most mids are made to repoduce the sound from 50hz and up.. that leave from 50hz down that you are not going to get good response on... that is the reason for having a sub.. and you said you are looking for something small enough.. try maybe one 10 in a small sealed box.. maybe a jl 10w3v2.. a infiniti perfect... a idq..

hey nucleus that 8w7 has been out almost a year now... and i really dont think you he will get the bass he is looking for from that 8w7... my experience with 8's are they really hit very shallow.. dont seem to get those deep notes like the 10 or 12s..

The JL Audio 8W7 is not a normal 8, trust me. Go listen to one in a good ported box, you will swear you are hearing multiple 10's or a 12. It is amazing.

Thanks for the great input. I am going to check out the options you all mentioned. I guess I will have to just experiment.

I don't mean to intrude, but I have some questions regarding new speakers and such...

In my CL-S, we have 4 speakers and 2 tweeters...no sub. So therefore, the speakers are basically giving me my bass for the time being. When you add a sub & amp, do the speakers no longer distribute bass and only treble now, giving the sub the only source of bass? Also, what exactly does the HU power if the stock speakers are running off an amp?

Now, if I were to upgrade my speakers after getting a sub & amp, what is it exactly taht I need to get? What is this mid-range, high-range stuff, the hz, etc..?? Basically, all I want is great clarity out of my speakers that are crisp, clear, and loud that play over the Sub so that I can hear the music & vocals. I'm really confused on how all these things work. Any help is appreciative!

`John

hey Dem1K i think that the people over on www.acura-cl.com would be better fit to help you but i will see what i can do for you as well... ok the cl system is slightly different than the tl if i remember correctly the cl has a sperate amp for the door speakers and then another one for the sub... so you you wanted to replace the sub and add an external amp that is all you will have to do is splice into the signal before the stock amp and add rca ends so it can plug into your aftermarket amp... as for will the door speakers then only play mids and highs.. well no unless you put some sort of passive crossover on them... but you mentioned you want to upgrade them also... if so are you planning on adding an external amp or are you just trying to drop in some replacements with no amp..

I listened to the 8W7 today. Very nice. It is definately smaller than the Focal 11" box I have right now.

I have a question for OU Sig. Any chance you can email me pictures of your Sub box? and also the front and rear speakers? Also, where did you locate the Amps? I am currently leaning towards the Focal 165KP for Front and 165CA for the rear. If I just go with the front and rear speker replacement, I can hide the 4CH amp under the front seat. If I add the sub, I will have to put the 5CH amp in the back with the Sub.

porshah,

The installer should be emailing me my install pics soon, if not then I will take them myself and send them too you. My amps are both in the trunk directly infront of my subs. They are trimmed in to look nice. So when you open the trunk you see the two subs and amps looking at you. There is still enough space to put stuff back there, I usually just put it in the back seat though. I dont think you will have room under you seat for the amp because of the seat motor and heater system already under the seat.
The Focal speakers are amazing thats for sure! You need to give them at least 100 watts/speaker for best sound and so you wont have to worry about underpowering them (they are components you know).
Email me at newman8350@aol.com so I can get your email.

Can you post pics of the head unit in your dash? Does it require a custom trim ring or anything?

Thanks

I have not had a chance to take pictures of the interior due to family medical emergency. I will post them real soon. I did have to make a custom trim kit for the new HU.
