let me start by saying i have a 97 3.2 tl stock head unit, 300 watt 3way infinity 6x9, 180 watt 2way infinity 6.5. i also have a 12 inch infinity sub in a box that is not hooked up and i just purchased an ALPINE CDA 7875 and an alpine CHA-1214 . my question is.... to get decent sound will i need an amp? if so how many channels and how many watts? will i need a capacitator? any other suggestions? thanks alot guys
Well,, for the sub you NEED an amp. For the others, it's optional.
Kappas usually don't sound good without one, and to some of us they don't sound that good with one (btw, it's more pertinent if your Infinitys are Kappas or ... Reference? than how many watts they are -that's unfortunatley not that relevant).
You could get a 4-CH amp for the 4 corners and a mono or bridged amp for the sub. You could get a 4-ch amp for the F and the sub and run the R 6x9's off of the deck power. Or you could get a 5-channel amp and run everything.
Tha capacitor depends on the amps you get and how much of a drain they are. Most amps have loosely-regulated power supplies, and could benefit from the cap (let your ears be the judge). The more expensive amps (Jl Audio "slash" models for one) are stiffly regulated and a cap doesn't help.
Personally, I would not say you NEED a cap - think about one when everything else is done. Don't sacrifice anything for buying one in your budget, let's put it that way...

thanks man, ok so for sub amp is needed, does it matter how many watts? can i throw in a 200 watt one and forget bout it or wat? unfortunatly mine are not kappas
a high school budget will only allow for so much ya no? i was thinkin of runnin the fronts off the head unit and the 6x9 and sub off an amp. will leave the cap alone for now but how many watts amp should i get? is more better or will blow my speakers? sorrie for the long stupid questions
