Thumbs up New Version of Navi DVD: "G"

The Acura website www.acura.com says that a new DVD for the Navi was to be released mid-May. They said that it has some programs corrections but all the same mapping information.

Could someone who just got a new TL check the DVD in the trunk to see which version they have? Are they shipping with the new "G" release yet?

An upgrade is $185. That bites.

I doubt it's worth it, unless you (1) have money to burn, (2) travel extensively for business or pleasure to addresses you don't know how to get to, or (3) are one of those really anal people who has to have every software update known to God and man.

Especially if the new version has no new mapping info, it seems a waste of money.

just wondering what those program correction were. maybe in the future we can download additional voices instead of the traditional male and female voices. also would be cool if we could replace some of the responses like "pardon" to "speak clearly stupid" or something like that, then that would be worth the upgrade IMO

Link, please. I can't find any mention of the update at Acura.com either...

Ordering link for NAVI DVD still lists 3.30F as the current version.

the info could all be made up, the fact that it isnt a secure site should already make people be suspicious. more so when it is asking for credit card number. the only way i wll order from there is if acura makes some sort of comfirmation that it is indeed a credible site, or else, i recommend to everyone to not go there

If you login to Acura Owner Link, and click on "My TL" there is a link next to "Navigation:" for "Order DVD" that points to http://www.acuranavi.com/

My $0.02:

As I mentioned in a different thread, I think that you'll see mapping data updated once a year (when the new model gets released). With all the other quality issues that Acura (and every other automobile manufaturer) has to deal with, they aren't likely to offer multiple revisions of mapping data in a model year. Besides, it costs them money for each map database update, with no real bottom-line benefit (you've already bought the car).

I thought that I read somewhere in this forum that all Honda/Acura Navis for 2004 are on the DVD. This would make very good sense for Honda from a development cost, manufacturing, and quality control point of view.

You shouldn't feel that much better, even though acura points to it. The fact still remains that the site acuranavi is unsecure any credit card info that you enter will be floating accross the internet in clear text.

Experimenting with the website a bit this came up:
The current orange labeled DVD for this model is version 3.30F. A revised version (3.30G DVD) will be available in mid May that corrects minor system issues. However, version 3.30G will not have any additional map coverage or updated POIs beyond what 3.30F offers. If you wish to place an order now for the current 3.30F DVD, please select Continue. Your credit card will not be billed until the disc ships.
Seems to me if it only corrects "minor issues" and includes no new mapping info Acura should give this to us for free!

While I believe the website to be legit, it is odd that it isn't secure for orders, and uses port 7777 rather than 80. I ordered updates for my prior CL-S, but don't recall is the site was secure then or not.

do you see a gold lock on the bottom right corner of the IE window specifying the site uses 128bit encryption on the order form? i dont
i wouldnt trust it...even the whois info seems out of place..

why not just goto the dealer and ask for updated software....price cant be that much of a difference if your ordering "directly from the acura site"...

Someone could also send an e-mail to Alpine advising them that you won't buy from a non-secure site. Perhaps a few of those will get them to implement the proper security.

If you go to acuranavi.com and fill in the year and model info, it still shows version F as the latest.

the updates for the navi may not be worth it for alot of people but for drivers in metro areas in may be worth it to get the updated every now and then because the points of interests are updated.

First of all, secure sight issues aside, www.acura.com is the official worldwide website for Acura. As someone mentioned, when you go to the "My TL" section, and drill down on electronic/Navi, you will be directed to the site: www.acuranavi.com. It is operated by Alpine Electronics, one of the most reputable manufacturers of electronic devices in the world. They are the makers of Acura's Navi system just like Panasonic makes the audio system.

If you read the explanation, it will tell you that the new 3.30 G DVD contains program corrections (minor) but has no new mapping and NO new points of interest. The 3.30 F, which most of us have, has an orange label. I'm not sure what color the 3.30 G is.

BTW, you can't get the DVD out of the player without the key turned on. (Just in case you were going to let your fingers do the walking). You can't even get in the trunk until the PDI (pre delivery inspection) because the fuses haven't been installed yet. If the car is cleaned and polished, it's had the PDI. If it still has the white plastic on it, it hasn't.

As for me, I'm not going to be a thief for a minor program upgrade. Now, if you're real tight with your salesperson..... well, they have ways to get things done. Sol and Sadie might be getting a new TL and never use the Navi. Are they going to know the difference between a 3.30 F and a 3.30 G?? Who knows. There are strange things done in the midnight sun....*

Shouldn't charge for bug fixes...

I'm in agreement that there shouldn't be a charge for revisions that address software bugs.

If they're adding value by improving the maps fine, software flaws should be their nickel.

I found and reported one bug that causes the system to not accept odd numbered addresses in unverified areas - "grays out" the odd number keys, even if the address to be keyed in was within the allowed range displayed in the upper right. Totally strange.

Why the 3.30G message isn't seen by some...

I was playing around on a different server and got the 3.30G message to appear - as a popup.

It dawned on me that if a PC has a popup blocker (which my home PC does) functioning it's probably keeping this message from being displayed when the page is visited.

Ah so true. If software were regulated that way Bill Gates wouldn't own half of the State of Washington.

with the # of problems i'm having and the trips I keep making to the dealer, I'm going to ask him to "swap" it with a brand new one.. even if it's "F", it's still newer than mine from last July. I go in again this thursday and/or friday so I'll see if he can fudge one.

New date says something about a release date of June 6th. Hopefully the release notes will be posted on the web site before we order.

Looks like there is a 30 day return policy. I am sure someone will try it and report back.

Looks like "G" can now be ordered. However, the FAQ is not updated to describe the differences from "F".

The latest DVD Navi disk is "G" and was just released two weeks ago. It does not have any different maps or Points of Interest. It has some bug fixes and program upgrades.

Mine tells me to turn left inappropriately at the same places repeatedly. I go under an intersection of two limited access highways and it tells me to turn left. The blue route is correct. I am staying on the same road. It is confusing. Also rare.

I guess I'll wait for "H" then if "G" is only bug fixes and program upgrades. I have not seen any bugs. What are the program upgrades?

Just bought 04 TL with Nav. The DVD is 3.30G and is orange. POI in my area are still old though. Shows gas stations and restaurants that have not been there for 3 years. Oh well
