!

I stick with Bel radar detectors and only Bel. I have a Bel 950 and it has saved my azz so many times, I cannot even count. What I like about Bel is their customer service. My 950 started acting funny about 4 years into having it. I called Bel and told them what it was doing. They told me to send it to them and they would reprogram it, test it and give me a one year warranty. They sent it back to me right away. Total turn around time was 10 days.

But, getting to the nuts and bolts, I have never had bad luck with Bel's. I hate Whistler and Cobra is junk IMO. I've picked up cops two miles to three miles away before. No joke! The 980 and 990 are good models. Go to www.beltronics.com for more info.

No detector on the market outperforms the V1.

It been tested. It's a fact.

Getting anything else is Stoopid

I agree with ranberndt. Look at it like it`s an investment, it cost 400.$ the going price in FL for a tickett is 150.$ Plus points and latter your insurance takes it pound of flesh, for how many years? Point # 1 It`s upgradable.
# 2 You can allways sell it on E-bay and get 90% of your money back.

I have owned a Bel 985, Didn`t like or trust it. To many close calls, But the V-1, no conparison at all. Yes it has more false alarms, I would rather reacte to ten false alarms than one miss actual. Check it out yourself you allready know V-1 is the best.
That`s my .02 cents, good luck!

I hear you on the V1, but 7 years..no tickets, Bel hasn't done me wrong one time..to each is own. Getting a Bel wasn't "stoopid" for me. Saved my azz to many times. Remember, speeding isn't just going fast. It involves utilizing other cars for bait and noticing the warning signs and watching traffic flow.

On an Open highway and you see bunched up traffic. One of three things.

1. Slow vehicles in both lanes
2. Accident
3. Cop in the midst.

Its well known in the industry the 2 best radar detectors are the Escort 8500 and the Valentine One.

I have a V1. Ill never use anything else.

I have had the 8500 for 3 years and it works real well for me, no tickets *yet* .. KNOCKS ON WOOD. If I had the choice, I would have gotten the V1 but so expensive...if money isn't a issue, get the V1 otherwise, get the 8500.

I swear by my V1.

Once you've gotten used to the arrows that tell you where the radar/laser is coming from (in front of you, behind you, left, right) there's no way you could ever use another detector.

The V1 is also upgradeable so it will never become obsolete.

I have had a Passport and a V1 and they both were awesome.

However, if you are looking for stealth then your needs change. I've seen StreetEffectz hide the V1 display in the rearview mirror.

I went with a K40-2000 with the laser difuser. It has two LED's mounted on the instrument bezel. It is very similar to the V1 arrows. The right LED is the rear, the left LED the front. If they both blink, then the radar is from the side although you won't know left or right side. The receivers are hid in the front and rear. The laser difuser is just below the front bumper. This unit actually comes in a license plate frame. This system has never let me down but you can buy a few V1's for the price. It just depends how far you want to go with it.

Passport also makes a couple high end stealth detectors. I think one is called the SRX.
