Need help on picking an amp.

Im going to have put in my car 2 sets of Polk DX6 and two 10" JL Audio 10w6. I need to know what amps I should get. I want to have a mutli-channel for the Speakers and run my two subwoofers off of a mono amp parrelle. The DX6 speakers have a 2-40 RMS and a peek of 130, but i can find very little about the 10w6. All I have found is its 300 watts, whether that RMS or peek I have no clue. Any help finding information on the subs and picking a good amp would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ron is doing my sound system and if you want to know what else im doing just let me know. Its gonna be nice.

Re: Need help on picking an amp.

Why don't you ask Ron for some ideas? He is a very smart guy.

Would you consider adding a 3rd 10w6? Or swapping them for a pair of 10w3 d4's? It just provides a more flexible combonation of impedances for selecting an amp. What are you using for a headunit? You may be able to run those Polk's off of the headunit firts. Then if you are unhappy with the sound you can buy an amp for them.

As for the sub amp, how much did you want to spend?

OK, would you consider 2 JL 10w3 D4's, or do you already own the W6's? I think you should try running the Polk's off of your headunit first. This way you won't need to spend the money if you don't have to.

Well let me know what you think about the sub idea and I can try to recommend some amps for you.

OK ill run my speakers off my h/u first. You suggested 10w3-D4, but arent those a step down than the 10w6? or are they better? the price is only 10 dollars more for the w6? let me know what you are thinking. are W6 only good in trios?

The W6's are generally used in a trio because they can be wired for a 4ohm or 1ohm load. This just makes it easier to find amps that produce their maximum amount of power into those loads.

Well by name the W3's are lower. I actually prefer the W3's to the W6's. They have a higher output and IMO sound quality is equal between the two subs. Plus the design of the W3 is newer than the W6... Getting 2 10w3d4's will allow you to wire your amp for a 4ohm or 1ohm load again.

Is there any way you can listen to these subs for yourself before buying? It really does depend on what you think about the sound.

P.S. Have you talked to Austin about purchasing JL subs? You can e-mail me (bso@telusplanet.net) for his address...
