Need help/advice on installing door speakers

Hey guys,

First off, does anyone have any experience with the SoundStream Tarantrula TRC.6n component spkr system? They are 6.5 and was curious if they will simply drop in to my 99TL.

If not, what will I have to do? I’ve read numerous threads regarding spacers and the appropriate place to mount the crossovers, etc, but they weren't very helpful. If spacers are needed, did any of you purchase pre-made ones or make your own? If you made your own, what did you use?

Thx,
B

You will need a spacer no matter what you use.

If you make a mating spacer that matches the OEM speaker/spacer stack height, you can get much better sound.

Those speakers have a cast aluminum frame, and would possibly require cutting of metal to fit in the TL door, since it doesn't have that large a hole in the metal..

Thanks for the info elduderino. I actually found a post (I believe by you) explaining how to make the spacers, however, some of the pics showing the speaker/spacer in the door were not viewable - I get the general idea though. The spacer is basically "filler" between the back of the speaker to the back of the door, correct?

Thanks for responding,
B

I don't know why some of those pics are gone... and I haven't used that CarDomain account in a long time.

I'll try to find them later.

Not sure about your TL, but I bought 6.5" spacers for my CL and didn't end up using them. Just dremel'd out the rear grill from the speaker grommet for my huge ass magnets, and they fit right in, didn't touch the window at all. This is all I cut off

couple centimeters thick

Thx for the info. I don't know if the CL is the same as the TL. Everyone here is saying that I need the spacer regardless.....we'll see. Thanks for the pic though.

The spacer isn't just to space the frame, it's also to seal the front of the speaker to the back of the door panel for midbass performance.
