Need Advice on System

I just got my TSX and would like some more bass. I was wondering if a bass tube would be sufficient enough for this, because I would like to spend less money. I was thinking about putting a 10" in the back, but prices were a bit high. I don't need windows rattling bass, but just more then the stock system. Thanks.

Sorry, nobody on this board is willing to give system design advice.

OK, OK.

It would help if you told people your budget since price has already been mentioned.

As little as possible, maybe 300-500.

Since I have been monopolizing the system design advice lately, you might want to ask some others too, like tuan209 - you might want varying opinions to choose from. jkochis made this suggestion the other day that might be just what you are asking:

If all you want to do is increase your bass:

You will need a Line-Output Converter (or an amp with one in it). Connect it to the wires going to the by-nines in the rear deck (unplug the by-nines).

I would not go with a tube myself. Not a fan. One 10 in a box will increase your bass substantially. If you want more bass after that then you are in denial about the window-rattling part : )

And remember that not all bass comes from the sub. The door speakers play nid-bass, and it's not very good. Improvements there are more complex. Lotta threads here, check em out.

just curious... once we connect the amp/sub in place of the 6x9, are we able to control the sub volume independently (bass setting) or does all speakers output get the same volume settings?

When using an LOC on the 6x9 output, you will NOT be able to control sub volume unless your sub amp has a seperate level control knob.

If you remove the factory amp and use the R outputs of the deck for the sub amd and the F outputs of the deck for your mids and highs, then you can use the fader as your sub level control.

thanks for the insite.. i was just debating weither to upgrade my 6x9's to Alpine Type-S, or put in my current 300.1 JBL amp with kicker sub instead... will the fact being unable to control the sub output might drown out the vocals from mids/highs? I've got 6.5 type-S for the four doors already.. will upgrading the 6x9 be just as good as adding the sub in terms of overall sound quality?

self stripping connectors

i just got polk db690s for my rear deck. I put them in, and they sound great, but i have one question. I used self stripping connectors (a plastic thing where your new wire and factory wire are side by side, and there is a metal prong overtop that splices both, hence connecting them). Is there any downside to this. I used it because its super easy (basically clip both wires together), and keeps the factory wire intact (put electrical tape over the harness).

thanks

I have a 12"... no rattles. No sound deadening stuff either.

I was only referring to his original statement about not needing "window-rattling" bass. Not implying that 12"s actually create rattles.
