why dont you get a custom ps2 install??
ps2s under the seat look very tacky in non SUVs IMHO.
theres a place in North NJ that can take apart your ps2 and mount in in your dash and the controller ports somewhere else within the car with the extenders.
If not you can also take out the glove box and install it in there with controller port extenders.

Hey T S X!

that looks like my exact install!! except my PS2 goes under the driver seat.

AKay, a custom install of PS2 is not good for me because i ofter bring my PS2 back into the house to use it. also where ever i go i like to be able to bring it in to use.

Thanks Lung Fu Mo Shi

Akay - I like to use the PS2 in my house also, the custom install wouldn't work for me either.

ebcheon - I installed it myself. I'm not a pro, I just got the service manual and looked at how some people installed theirs online. It took me 7 hours. I got the unit from AVElectronic and I used a ratchet set, screwdrivers, soldering iron, tie-wrap, pliers, wire for power and ground, RCA cables (the ones that came with the unit are pretty short) and an inverter for the PS2. I took out the back seat and the center console. Tied the unit under the Navi unit. Plugged in the plug & play cable to the Navi unit. Ran the power, IR, video switch, FM Modulator and RCA cables through the middle. Tapped the power off the power socket that's in the armrest. Attached the antennas to the rear windshield. That's pretty much it.

Ok i love the install. Awsome job TSX, your the sh*t

One question, i notice you have to use FM modulation, if you have the log jam thing that makes for rca audio input for better sound quality can you skip the FM modulation part and thus have better sound?

I'm not sure how the log jam thing works but I know you can use the Blitzsafe adapter for audio feed. I don't think they have one for the TSX yet though.

Since video game consoles change every few years, I'd be kinda hesitant to really build-in a PS2 that's already a few years old. As it is now, you can plug in an X-Box (or soon a PS3?) pretty easily, right?

Xbox is too bulky and does not allow DVD play without a dongle unless you have a mod chip.
PS2 is old but still will have games being made for it well after the ps3 comes out.
They still make games for ps1(madden 2004).
I dont wanna talk to much about my custom install im doing this winter but i will definately get a digicam to take pics of the install.
It will be a quite cool install. =0)

well for the 2000 you can actually end up doing a better aftermarket install yourself. Although it may not look as OEM as how the navi looks now.
In some ways i wish i did have the navi. But it doesnt help me in any immediate way as everywhere im going to i know how to get to already.
I will post my install this winter im paying down some bills before i start investing into my TSX modwise.

Yes, the logjam part works the same as the Blitzsafe. I just bought that logjam part and plan on installing it this weekend. I dont think Blitzsafe is out for the TSX yet either.

What'd be really cool is if you could find wireless controllers for the PS2... I hate wires hanging out everywhere. I want to install a PC into the car later on, and every perhipheral I have will be wireless... =)

The tuner was $525. The resolution for DVD is good but for the TV it depends on the location.

Im not afraid someone will steal my idea as i said i was gonna post pics of the install meaning im gonna share it to anyone else to give them ideas.
Its just that i dont wanna be one of those guys that talks about what they are gonna do and never do it so id rather keep it to myself.
Its only in theory so it may or may not be a practical mod.

TSX, I have the same unit from AV Electronics (installed at my local Best Buy) in my '01 Acura MDX. The folks on the acuramdx.org site worked out a group buy with AV Electronics (with 25 or more buyers the price was less than $525 and you could opt in for a color, night vision rear view camera at $125). I have a Blaupunkt DVD/CD/MP3 player under the driver's seat and the tuner is on top of the nav unit (under the passenger seat). We bring along the PS2 on long trips. It all works great on a flip down monitor and the nav screen. I love it and am sorely tempted to get this on our TSX (minus the flip down monitor--not enough room for the rear seat pax) but the nav screen is big enough for everyone to see. (As long as the police don't see it which is the reason for the red cutout switch.) For some extra bucks, you could put screens in the headrests.
I submit this for everyone's consideration. We might be able to get a group buy going here. Then I would have to scramble to get another $500+ bucks and buy another one. (I'm electronically-challenged so I couldn't DIY). But as you know, it can be done at home.

Navi Mod

I've got the cash and PS2 for this mod, is there any way someone could put together a guide or at least a parts list so others can mod theirs too??

I think there needs to be some form of community here and not a 'i dont wanna share how i did it because it makes ME special' attitude.

Thanks!

Gee, one post and you start complaining about people hording info? Try searching some before you start complaining.

The avelectronics.com kit is completely explained on their site. The parts list is simple, buy their kit.

I sent an e-mail to Sam at AVelectronics yesterday (10/8) and am waiting for a reply as to (1) whether his plug and play tuner work with our '04 nav units?? and (2) what can he do for us as far as a group buy goes: 15 or 25 buyers and what is the price for group of 15 or a group of 25 buyers.

How about like 5 to 10 buyers? I don't want to have to wait forever to get 15+ buyers

thanks

There is another site that features NavTV/Tuner units similar to AVelectronics. Try streeteffectz.com There's a guy named Ron who developed a Nav/TV tuner that some of the MDX people were interested in. At the time of our group buy from aveletronics, his unit was not completely plug and play, but that may have changed.
These dealers wanted more than 5-10 people in their group buy to make it worthwhile and to keep the price lower. Ron at streeteffectz offered his unit for $475 including shipping.
Someone might want to check out their site while we're waiting for avelectronics to respond.
