Post NAVI VOICE....anyone who has changed headunit....

Were you able to keep the voice, and if so, how...now I need YOUR guys help. I don't have time at the moment to figure it out, so if someone has done it, please let me know. I have a couple people who want to change headunits and keep voice.

Ron,

I've done this on my Honda. I thought I shared the procedure earlier in the forum, but then I might not have been clear enough.

Let me try again... low level L&R navi voice are on wires 2 and 3 (as I recall) of your factory radio wire harness. You can connect these to the outboard front channel amp in parallel (RCAa Y type connectors?) . You can get a slight buzz when connected, but putting 15K resistors in-line fixed this and also brought the volume down to more proper level. Yes, hooking up this way will NOT let you use the volume control on your stereo for navi voice volume, instead you use the navi setup screen to adjust volume.

Also you will want to MUTE the headunit when the navi speaks. This is kind of tricky because the navi sends a +12v signal to mute the factory stereo. Most aftermarket stereo's expect ground to mute. To fix this put in a small reed relay to switch the new headunit "mute lead" to ground.

Maybe this needs a kit too... "Navi voice on my aftermarket headunit" :}

Thanks Steve, will do! By the way, you must have a TON of decoders to build! I like it a lot, very nice

Hi,
I didn't do the install myself, so maybe this isn't that helpful. The installer made the voice output to a tiny self-powered speaker mounted on the inside drivers wheel-well.

I don't use the voice that much but when I do, I don't like it muting the music when she feels like saying something, so this was a better solution for me, than trying to run it through the head unit.

Using the external POS alpine speaker. HIGHLY recommend Steve's solution.
