Does the DVD-Rom currently play movies? I have not tried it yet, but want to know.. if not, how easi is it to make it so?

we just have a DVD reader... we dont have the proper equipment for encoding and playing a DVD movie.

You can however... use a kit to play DVD's through your navi screen using either a portable DVD player or a PlayStation2 or something.

You mention a "kit" to be able to connect up a portable DVD player...what kind of kit, and how much do they cost? I've wanted to do the same thing for quite awhile now.

SteveStMS (stevestms@aol.com) sells a deluxe kit consisting of ntsc -> rgb decoder (for video) and a RF modulator (for audio).

The kit costs $220. And includes instructions for installing.

One of the folks made an adaptor to interface with the LCD screen. I just tried the search, but the server is running slow (for me). Try searching on "LCD" and "DVD" and or NAVI...

And what would be a good dvd player system to use? I already have dvd at home, so not really willing to shell out a lot for this - just thought it would be nice for passengers on long trips...

 

Will this hurt the Navi system? Does the touch screen run the play pause etc? I assume that this will void any warranty. Thanks

I don't get the audio needing a RF modulator. (are you talking about a de-modulator for the FM audio subcarrier, assuming that RF is being used.

Thoughts on operation:

I don't think the buttons are being used, but I didn't make the unit.

RF modulator to play audio throught the stock stereo system. Audio out from DVD player plugs in the modulator and plays audio through a radio station. I do carry these, and portable DVD players. Good one to go with is the pioneer PDV10....$475 plus shipping.

Could not see the picture. Thanks for the clarification. I had a funny thought. Whenever I think of the modulator you are talking about (audio to FM [88-108MHZ). I wonder what the range is. It would be funny to be next to someone with some really rank music at full volume, then "jam" in with something really funny. Oh well, its late
